No. 1 Wake Forest Baseball Earns More Recognition From Perfect Game

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Already named the Preseason Player of the Year and Preseason Pitcher of the Year on the national level, Nick Kurtz and Chase Burns picked up the same honors from Perfect Game in their preview of the ACC released on Monday.
Kurtz, Burns, and Josh Hartle were all named First Team All-American by Perfect Game as announced by the publication last Thursday and the trio found their way onto the Preseason All-ACC team as well.
Last week, the Demon Deacons were named the No. 1 team in the country in Perfect Game's preseason top 25.
Earning his second-straight Preseason First Team All-American honors from Perfect Game, Burns was also named to the All-ACC team and joined the Demon Deacons ahead of the 2024 season from the University of Tennessee were he compiled a 13-5 record over the course of two seasons with the Volunteers. Burns was named the National Freshman of the Year following the 2022 season by D1 Baseball, NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball.
Kurtz earns his second-straight Preseason All-ACC nod from Perfect Game following a sophomore season that saw the Lancaster, Pa. native slash .353/.527/.784 en route to Preseason Player of the Year honors. He finished second in the ACC in home runs (24), walks (63), runs scored (76) and slugging percentage (.784) last season, while providing an elite glove at first base for the Deacs.
Posting an 11-2 mark across 102.1 innings last year, the Preseason All-ACC honor is the first for Hartle, after earning Preseason First Team All-American honors last week. As a sophomore, Hartle fanned the second-most batters in program history (140) which ranked fifth in the nation. The Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist will look to better his fourth-lowest ERA in the ACC (2.81) in 2024.
The trio and the rest of the Demon Deacons open the 2024 season on Friday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 18 when they take on Fordham, Illinois and Akron at David F. Couch Ballpark.
