The Ponte Vedra Beach native earned his second top-10 finish of his senior season
FORT WORTH, Texas - Battling against 12 of the nation's top 25 teams, the Wake Forest men's golf team wrapped up the final round of the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational at the prestigious Colonial Country Club Tuesday.
Ending with a final three-day score of 870 (+30) , the Demon Deacons shot their lowest round of the tournament in round two, posting a 286 (+6) and finishing 14th on the leaderboard.
The Deacs were led by a final under-par round from senior Scotty Kennon. Kennon got off to a strong start with two birdies in his first five holes. His hot start continued after the turn, tallying four more birdies. His 67 (-3) was the lowest and only under-par score of the week.
Kennon ended the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational even par, holding a share of eighth place and earning his second top-10 finish of his senior season.
Sophomore Tom Haberer ended tied for 35th at 7-over-par 219 (73-72-72), climbing four spots up the leaderboard, while Kyle Haas tied for 58th at 12-over-par.
From Coach Haas:
"We had a nice day today. It got a little windier on the front side, but the guys really battled the last 36 holes. At the end of the day, a few teams pulled away, but we're not that many strokes behind some of the best teams in the country. These guys never quit. This was an extremely hard course, very difficult and we need to get better at playing harder courses. Scotty Kennon had a lovely 67 today to move up the leaderboard. Go Deacs!"
