Deacs Open October at the Hamptons Intercollegiate

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y.- The Wake Forest men's golf team is set to travel to the Empire State to the Maidstone Club in East Hampton, New York for the Hamptons Intercollegiate, hosted by Loyola Maryland.
The Deacs are one of eight teams in the event that reached the NCAA Regionals last year. Three teams in the field reached the NCAA Championships – Wake Forest, Virginia and Florida State.
In their latest outing at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational, the Deacs were led by senior Scotty Kennon. His 67 (-3) in the final round was the lowest and only under-par score of the week, ending the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational even par, holding a share of eighth place and earning his second top-10 finish of his senior season.
Teams will play 36 holes on Monday, October 7, with tee times starting from the first and 10th holes at 7:35 a.m. The Deacs will be in the opening groups off the first tee with players from Florida State and Loyola Maryland. The tournament will wrap-up with 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Deacs Lineup
Kennon ended the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational even par, holding a share of eighth place and earning his second top-10 finish of his senior season. The Deacs were led by a final under-par round from senior Scotty Kennon. Kennon got off to a strong start with two birdies in his first five holes. His 67 (-3) was the lowest and only under-par score of the week at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational. In his outing at the Lyon's Links Invitational, Scotty Kennon claimed his first top-5 finish of his senior season (T4) and the third of his career. After a flawless back nine tallying two eagles and a birdie, the senior carded three rounds of 70 to end 6-under-par. Last season, Kennon captured his first collegiate title at the Calusa Cup, and set a new tournament record shooting six-under par. Last season, he claimed four top-10 finishes over twelve events and ended second on the team in stroke average at 71.92 including eight rounds in the 60s. Last spring, Kennon claimed All ACC and PING All Region honors.
Finished T58 at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational. Leading the Deacs at the Lyon's Links Invitational, sophomore Kyle Haas ended in third place, tying his best career finish. Haas's continued effort in round three included carding six birdies and finishing the tournament at 7-under-par (69-69-71). At the Inverness Intercollegiate, Haas rose nine spots up the leaderboard to land himself tied for 43rd. Last season, Haas competed in 24 total rounds during his freshman campaign. Haas claimed three top-25 finishes last season, including a top-15 finish at the Bank of Tennessee Invitational (T12).
In his latest outing at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational, sophomore Tom Haberer ended tied for 35th at 7-over-par 219 (73-72-72), climbing four spots up the leaderboard. Recently at the Lyon's Links Invitational, sophomore Tom Haberer carded a low final round of 67 (-5), ending tied for sixth, picking up his first top-10 finish of the season. Playing as an individual at the Inverness Intercollegiate, Tom Haberer was tied for 66th at 12-over-par 219 (69-76-74). Haberer competed in 10 events over 29 rounds during his rookie season and made his first NCAA Regional and NCAA Championship appearances. Haberer secured the highest finish of his career (T5) at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate during the 2023 fall season.
Finished T64 at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational. In his outing at the Lyon's Links Invitational, junior Jakob Melin captured his first top-10 finish as a Demon Deacon, holding a share of fourth place. At the Inverness Intercollegiate, junior Jakob Melin ended round three as the top Deac on the individual leaderboard at T28. After a bogey free front nine in round three, Melin maintained composure throughout his final round to keep his spot on the leaderboard.
At the Lyon's Links Invitational, senior Marshall Meisel's eight birdies were a team-high in round two, with three coming on his first four holes of the day. Meisel had one of the best scores for the Deacs in round two, posting a 68 (-4). Meisel ended the tournament with his first top-20 finish of the season, holding a share of 15th place. As the only Deac under par in the third round, Marshall Meisel climbed 32 spots up the individual leaderboard finishing at T33 at the Inverness Intercollegiate. Meisel tallied three birdies between holes No. 6 and No. 9, and carded a final round score of 68 (-2), this being the lowest score recorded for the Deacs throughout the Inverness Intercollegiate. The junior came up clutch for the Deacs in the 5v5 tie breaker format at the NCAA Austin Regional. Meisel birdied the par-5 11th to defeat his opponent by a stroke, ultimately sending the Deacs to their 48th NCAA Championship appearance.
Playing as an Individual
Playing individually at the Lyon's Links Invitational, senior Collin Adams was the low Demon Deacon on the leaderboard in round one and held a share of second place. Ending with a bogey-free back nine, Adams closed his round strong as the highest Deac on the leaderboard at 4-under-par. Adams claimed his first top-20 finish of the season, ending the tournament in 13th place. In his outing at the Inverness Intercollegiate, Adams ended round three holding a share of 63rd at 11-over-par. Adams played in a career-high nine events this season, capturing two top-10 finishes. Adams had his best career finish last season, tying for sixth at The Wake Forest Invitational, and carding a season low round of 67. Adams got hot in round two, finishing three-under (67) and tallying the Deacs only eagle of the tournament on hole No. 10.

Maidstone is one of the premier courses on the East Coast, opening in 1891 before being expanded to 18 holes in 1899; Ben Crenshaw completed extensive renovations on the course in 2012.
