Wake Forest Concludes Non-Conference Action Tuesday at UNCW

The Demon Deacons will be looking for their fourth non-conference victory of the season.
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Wake Forest men's soccer will conclude the non-conference portion of the 2024 schedule on Tuesday evening, facing UNCW for the first time in 15 years.
Kick-off for the match is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the match will be streamed on FloSports.

- Wake Forest enters the match with a 5-3-5 overall record while UNCW sits at 3-5-4.
- The Demon Deacons are currently unbeaten in five-straight matches, as Wake Forest logged three consecutive victories over Syracuse, ETSU and Boston College followed by 0-0 draws with Wofford and No. 16 Duke last week.
- UNCW, meanwhile, is coming off a 3-1 loss at Delaware on Friday night.
- In non-conference action this season, Wake Forest has logged victories over Central Arkansas, Radford and ETSU while drawing with No. 21 UCF, No. 10 Elon and Wofford.
- Wake Forest logged its fourth consecutive clean sheet on Saturday night, battling No. 16 Duke to a 0-0 draw at Koskinen Stadium.
- Senior goalkeeper Trace Alphin continued his string of strong performances, logging four massive saves to stop the Blue Devils' No. 1-nationally ranked scoring offense.
- Alphin was tested in both the second minute and second to last minute, with his 89th-minute stop of Duke's Kenan Hot preserving the Deacs' fifth clean sheet this year and fourth in a row.
- It marked the first time this season Duke has not scored a goal and the first time they've been kept out of the scoring column since Oct. 21, 2023, a stretch of 15 matches.
- It was also the first time they did not score at home since a 2-0 loss to Clemson in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship on Nov. 6, 2022.
- Offensively, the Deacs collected 12 shots with their best opportunity coming on a 32nd-minute penalty kick that was saved.
- UNCW will enter the match with a strong 3-1-1 record at UNCW Soccer Stadium, earning home victories this season over American (1-0), Drexel (2-1) and the College of Charleston (2-1) along with a 1-1 draw against South Florida.
- Eight Seahawks have scored so far this season, led by Josef Hefele's three goals.
- Three different goalkeepers have logged minutes in 2024, as redshirt freshman Trey Smiley has started each of the last two matches.
- Wake Forest will match up against for the ninth time in program history and for the first time since the 2009 season in Tuesday's contest.
- The Demon Deacons hold a 5-2-1 all-time record against the Seahawks.
- This will be Wake Forest's first road match at UNCW since a 4-0 victory on Sept. 20, 2000.
- Wake Forest will return to Spry Stadium on Saturday evening hosting No. 24 Virginia Tech in the program's annual Genna Wiley Memorial Match.
