
No. 6 Seed Wake Forest Primed for ITA National Team Indoor Championship; Set to Face No. 11 Seed Michigan Friday

The Demon Deacons will face the Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The sixth-seeded Wake Forest men's tennis team will start its ITA National Team Indoor Championship quest Friday when the Demon Deacons open tournament play against 11th-seeded Michigan at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
First serve for Friday's showdown is slated for 6:30 p.m. The match can be streamed live via Cracked Racquets and live results can be found here.

ITA National Team Indoor Championship
Composed of 16 of the nation's best teams, the ITA Division I Men's National Team Indoor Championship is an event packed with excitement and history as the championship continues its storied history Friday from Columbia University in New York, New York.
As a single-elimination tournament, teams will play one match each day with the Championship Match being played on Monday, February 19, at noon (ET). However, all teams are guaranteed to play at least three matches over the weekend through either the main or consolation draw.

In a matchup between two top-10 foes, Wake Forest earned a 5-2 victory over South Carolina last Thursday evening at the Carolina Indoor Tennis Center in Columbia, S.C.
The win marked the Demon Deacons' first victory over a top-five opponent since April 9, 2021. Additionally, with the result, the Deacs have now knocked off two top-10 opponents in their past three matches.
Of note, Thursday also marked Wake Forest's first win over the Gamecocks since the 2021 campaign.
The Demon Deacons took the doubles point behind victories in the first and third slots, before carrying their momentum into singles play.
After South Carolina tied it up with a win in second singles, Wake Forest immediately took a 3-1 lead behind victories from Luca Pow and Luciano Tacchi, respectively.
The Gamecocks then narrowed their deficit to one (3-2) with a win in third singles, but No. 23 Filippo Moroni and Holden Koons closed the contest with three-set thrillers at the one and five slots to secure the 5-2 win for Wake Forest.
Of note, 23rd-ranked Moroni defeated No. 50 Toby Samuel, marking his first dual singles win over a top-50 opponent this season, while Tacchi's win over No. 76 Jelani Sarr marked his first win over a top-100 opponent this season.
Additionally, No. 7 DK Suresh Ekambaram/Holden Koons improved to 6-0 in dual doubles action to open the 2024 campaign.

In the latest ITA Rankings, Wake Forest was ranked ninth nationally. The Demon Deacons have three singles players, and one doubles pair currently ranked.

11th-seeded Michigan enters Friday's matchup with a 5-3 record, including wins over then-No. 9 Stanford and Washington. The Wolverines most recently dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 2 TCU on Tuesday (Feb. 13).
Ranked Wolverines
Friday will mark the 11th all-time meeting between the Demon Deacons and the Wolverines as Wake Forest owns a 5-5 record against Michigan. Of note, the Deacs defeated the Wolverines 4-3 during ITA Kickoff Weekend in 2022.
