2/3/2024 8:37:00 PM | Women's Tennis

The Demon Deacons will now prepare for their first home matches after six-consecutive matches away-from-home to open the season.

NORFOLK, Va. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team improved to 3-3 this season after a pair of victories Saturday (Feb. 3) inside the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va. The Demon Deacons earned a 4-1 win over Old Dominion before a 4-0 sweep over George Mason.

With the win in the first match, the Demon Deacons picked up their first victory over Old Dominion since 2005 and snapped a three-game losing streak against the Monarchs.

It was a well-balanced doubleheader sweep, as six separate Demon Deacons earned a singles victory across the two matches.

The Deacs improved to 12-4 all-time against Old Dominion and 1-0 against George Mason.

Wake Forest will look to build off of the wins in two weeks, as it returns to Winston-Salem for the home opener against South Carolina and Campbell on Saturday, Feb. 17 inside the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.

From Coach Wyshner
"It was a very good day. On the road, indoors, we came out and played well against a team that beat us twice last year. Brooke and Marcela clinched a big doubles point for us and then our singles play against ODU was very solid top to bottom. We talk about closing out matches where we won the first set and forcing third sets where we didn't. We forced two thirds and closed out two that we had won the first. That's a great recipe for success."

Next Up
The Demon Deacons will now return home to Winston-Salem to prepare for their first two home matches of the season with a doubleheader against South Carolina and Campbell on Saturday, Feb. 17. The first match against the Gamecocks is slated to begin at 11 a.m. inside the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center, with the clash with the Camels taking place at 3:30 p.m.
