WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team is set to play its first two home matches of the season this Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. The first match is scheduled for 11 a.m. against No. 24 South Carolina followed by a 3:30 p.m. clash with Campbell.

Scouting the Opposition

No. 24 South Carolina has opened the season with a 5-1 record, with wins over No. 23 Georgia Tech (4-3) and Clemson (6-1) in its last two matches. Its lone loss came at the hands of No. 4 Georgia, 4-1, in the second round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend (Jan. 27). It will mark the first road match of the season for South Carolina after posting a 3-6 record away from home last year. The last time the Gamecocks visited Winston-Salem, the Deacs picked up a 4-3 victory on Feb. 5, 2022.

Of note, the Gamecocks have made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament every year since the 1995 season.

South Carolina has three ranked singles players, including two of the top five players in the nation. Additionally, the Gamecocks have two nationally-ranked doubles pairs.

Last Time Out

Two weeks ago (Feb. 3), Wake Forest improved to 3-3 with a pair of victories inside the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va. The Demon Deacons earned a 4-1 win over Old Dominion before a 4-0 sweep over George Mason.

With the win in the first match, the Demon Deacons picked up their first victory over Old Dominion since 2005 and snapped a three-game losing streak against the Monarchs.

It was a well-balanced doubleheader sweep, as six separate Demon Deacons earned a singles victory across the two matches.

The Deacs improved to 12-4 all-time against Old Dominion and 1-0 against George Mason.

Up Next

Wake Forest will now prepare for the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic from Feb. 23-24 in Montgomery, Ala. at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
