No. 7 Wake Forest Primed for Series at No. 17 Virginia

Wake Forest closes a four-game road swing at No. 17 Virginia this weekend with Saturday’s game set for a national audience on ACC Network.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - No. 7 Wake Forest continues ACC play, with a three-game set at No. 17 Virginia. First pitch on Friday and Saturday is set for 4 p.m. with a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.

Friday and Sunday will air on ACCNX, while Saturday can be seen on The ACC Network with Mike Monaco and Kyle Peterson on the call.

Wake Forest will throw lefty Josh Hartle on Friday, righty Chase Burns on Saturday and are TBD on a starter for the series finale on Sunday.

  • Friday marks the 170th all-time meeting between the two schools, with the Demon Deacons leading the series, 87-82 dating back to 1955.
  • Wake Forest and Virginia last met in 2022 with the Cavaliers taking the series 2-1 in Winston- Salem. In all three games of the 2022 series, the winning team scored eight runs.

  • Wake Forest's 202 strikeouts through 16 games currently leads the ACC and ranks fifth nationally. Individually, the Deacs have two starting pitchers in the top 15, with Chase Burns ranking first with 43 K's and Michael Massey ranked 11th with 25. 
     
Walk It Out 
  • Wake Forest was the best team in the country in 2023 at drawing a free 90 feet with 424 on the season, good for 11 more than any other team. With five drawn walks on Tuesday, Wake has now drawn 113 free passes this season (7.1 per game). Wake Forest ranks second in the ACC and 15th nationally in the category.
