Robbie Grace, Elizabeth Whaley and Leia Braunagel Earned First Place Finishes at the 49er Classic

The Demon Deacons claimed seven podium finishes during day two of the 49er Classic.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Through the first two days of the 49er Classic, the Deacs have earned seven podium finishes along with three first place finishes from Robbie Grace, Elizabeth Whaley and Leia Braunagel. Grace earned her first place finish with a 5.92m jump in the women's long jump. 

Brauagel was one of three Deacs to finish in the top-five in the women's discus. The Baden-Baden Germany native claimed first place with a 55.01m throw. Ashlyn Giles earned a second place finish with a 49.82m throw. Finally, Amanda Schaare placed fifth with a 45.70m throw.

Whaley claimed first place in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:23.38. Along with Whaley, four other Demon Deacons landed in the top-10. Emma Douglass finished third in 4:30.34, Palmer Walstad finished behind her in fourth with a time of 4:32.08, Mackenzie Hart finished fifth with a personal-best time of 4:33.49 and Grace Wassell finished 10th in 4:37.32.

In the women's hammer, two Deacs added to the podium count for the weekend. Isabella Gera finished in second with a personal-best and the new third-longest hammer throw in program history with a 57.23m throw. Megan Cook claimed third place with a 56.98m throw.

The Deacs are primed to compete in the final day of the Charlotte 49er Classic Saturday, March 16 at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center. You can follow the live results here.
