Wake Forest will return to the courts Sunday for a pair of non-conference matchups in Greenville, S.C.
RALEIGH, N.C. - After two wins to open ACC play last weekend, the Wake Forest women's tennis team suffered its first conference loss of the season, 6-1, at NC State Friday afternoon at J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center in Raleigh.
The Wolfpack (13-3, 3-0 ACC) took the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. It was just the fifth dropped doubles point of the season for the Demon Deacons (8-6, 2-1 ACC). NC State then went on to win five of the six singles matches.
Senior Brooke Killingsworth recorded the lone victory for the Demon Deacons (8-6, 2-1 ACC), as she took down No. 37 Abigail Rencheli (6-4, 0-6, 1-0 [10-8]) in second singles. It marked the highest-ranked singles victory of her career. Additionally, it was her fourth individual win of the spring and first over a ranked opponent.
Of note, Killingsworth became the third Demon Deacon to defeat a ranked foe in dual play, joining fellow senior Casie Wooten and graduate student Marcella Cruz.
