CARY, N.C. - The No. 37-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped its ACC tournament second-round matchup with No. 24 and eighth-seeded Duke, 4-0, at Cary Tennis Park in Cary Thursday afternoon.
The Demon Deacons (15-13, 6-7 ACC) fought in doubles, but the Blue Devils (15-8, 7-6 ACC) prevailed on courts two and three and clinched the point. Senior Brooke Killingsworth and graduate student Marcella Cruz battled back from 1-4 down to make it 4-5 in first singles as the match went unfinished.
In singles, redshirt freshman Krystal Blanch was two games away from taking court six against Duke's Karolina Berankova before the Blue Devils clinched the victory with wins on courts five, three and two.

From Coach Wyshner
"Tough match today. Opening the ACC tournament with probably the most accomplished team in conference history is a tough challenge and we weren't quite sharp enough today to get to a point where the match gets really interesting. Credit to Duke for playing an aggressive doubles point and taking the momentum and then having their grad students step up and put up quick singles wins. Just became too tall of a hill to climb. I was really pleased with the improvement we're seeing in our freshmen and sophomores and our seniors always give a great effort. I think things are trending towards us getting to play again in a couple weeks. Hopefully we can put it all together once or twice that weekend!"
