Demon Deacons Primed for First-Round Clash with Vanderbilt

Wake Forest will look to advance to the second round for the sixth-consecutive season.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Kicking off its eighth-consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, the Wake Forest women's tennis team is set to take on Vanderbilt in the first round of the Columbus Regional at the Auer Tennis Complex on Saturday.

The match with the Commodores is slated for 10 a.m., with the winner taking on either Ohio State or Toledo on Sunday at noon.

The entire weekend will be streamed live on Ohio State's website and live results can be found here. Admission is free to all matches throughout the regional. 

The Demon Deacons have now made eight-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances under head coach Jeffrey Wyshner. Wake Forest is one of just 21 schools to accomplish this feat as well as one of six ACC institutions to do so. Additionally, the Demon Deacons have advanced in each of the last five NCAA tournaments.

NCAA Tournament Information
First- and second-round competition takes place May 3-4 or May 4-5 and features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. The winner of each site advances to super-regional competition May 10 or 11. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 17-19. The event will be hosted by Oklahoma State University.

Scouting the Opposition
Vanderbilt heads into the tournament as the No. 31-ranked team in the nation after falling in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament two weeks ago. The Commodores finished seventh in the conference standings with a record of 6-7 in SEC play and 12-10 overall.

In singles, the Commodores are led by junior Celia-Belle Mohr. The Montagris, France-native is the No. 13 singles player nationally and holds a 12-4 record in first singles this campaign and went 8-2 against SEC opponents.

Mohr is also a part of both of Vanderbilt's ranked doubles pairings and is as high as No. 33 with senior Anessa Lee.
