Demon Deacons Wrap Up the Regular Season at the Charlotte Invitational

Thomas Kitchell and Ashlyn Giles earned first place finishes on Saturday in Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up the 2024 outdoor regular season at the Charlotte Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Deacs ended the weekend with seven podium finishes.

Tommy Kitchell earned the first podium finish of the day in Charlotte. Kitchell recorded a 18.50m throw to claim the first place finish in the men's shot put. On the women's side of the shot put, Ashlyn Giles finished first with a season-best throw of 16.12m.

On Friday, three Deacs claimed first place in their respective events. In the women's discus, Leia Braunagel finished first with a 54.14m throw. Elizabeth Whaley finished first in the women's 1,500m invite with a 4:18.35, a new personal-best and the fifth-fastest time in Wake Forest history. Finally, Caroline Garrett claimed first with a season-best time of 16:21.26 in the 5,000m invite. 

The Demon Deacons look to Atlanta for the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Georgia Tech. The ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held from May 9-11 at the George C. Griffin Track & Field Facility.
