
Kennon Tops the Leaderboard in Round One of Calusa Cup

NAPLES, Fla.- After round one of the Calusa Cup Sunday afternoon, the Wake Forest men's golf team is 1-under-par and just four strokes behind the top spot on the leaderboard.
The Deacs finished round one in second place with a score of 287 (-1), trailing just the defending national champion Florida Gators.
Additionally, the Deacs sit ahead of two top 25 teams in the field, No. 20 Georgia and No. 15 Georgia Tech.
Junior Scotty Kennon leads the tournament, sitting atop the individual leaderboard by two strokes. Kennon started the Deacs off with a strong effort on the front nine going bogey free, and tallied back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15.
Kennon carded the lowest score for Wake Forest on Sunday with a 67 (-5). He was one of just 10 players to be under par.Senior Michael Brennan tallied the lone eagle for the Deacs on hole No. 8, which helped the senior finish the day under-par. Brennan ended round one tied for eighth with a score of 71(-1). This included a pair of birdies on the back nine and 12 pars through his opening round.

"We had lots of birdies today and just a couple of things to clean up on, but a good start for the week. Everyone had a great attitude and played nicely. Scotty Kennon leading the way is great to see, he's really worked hard on his short game and it's starting to pay off. "
