Deacs Take Third at Wolfpack Match Play

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team defeated the Virginia Cavaliers, 4-1, in match play to take home third place from the Wolfpack Match Play, hosted by NC State at Lonnie Poole Golf Club.
Four of the five matches didn't reach 18 holes and two were finished in 14 holes. Junior Carolina Chacarra and freshman Macy Pate each defeated their opponents 5&4. After starting the day on the 10th hole, Pate won back-to-back holes on 4 and 5 to go up five holes with just four to play. Chacarra went five up on 2 and halved 3, 4 and 5 to win with four holes left.
Graduate Rachel Kuehn tied her match on 15 and won three holes in a row to go 3UP at the turn. After winning 6 and going two up with three holes left, she halved seven and eight to win 2&1 on 8-green.
Freshman Brooke Rivers tied her match with a win on the third hole and won the sixth to go one up with three to play. She halved 7 and lost 8 but came back to win the match 1UP on nine.
On the week, the Deacs went 11-4 across all three matches. Rivers and Kuehn each played all three matches over two days and went undefeated. Pate and Rhodes also played all three and went 2-1 and 1-2, respectively. Chacarra played two matches and finished 1-1 and Den Dunnen played one and went 1-0.
Coach's Comments
"The spring season has been challenging due to weather and injuries. The last few weeks we have been trending in the right direction with good weather and a healthy team. This past week it was nice to have the entire team back together for the first time in a few months. We look forward to the postseason starting next week and invite everyone out to watch us play at Porters Neck in Wilmington." - head coach Kim Lewellen
