Wooten Primed for 2024 NCAA Singles Championships

The senior will face No. 11 Ayana Akli of South Carolina in a rematch of the three-set thriller that took place earlier this season.
STILLWATER, Okla. - For the second-consecutive season, Wake Forest senior Casie Wooten is set to represent the Demon Deacons at the 2024 NCAA Singles Championships beginning on Monday, May 20 in Stillwater, Okla.
Wooten, currently ranked No. 36 in the nation in the ITA singles rankings, will open the tournament against No. 11 Ayana Akli from South Carolina on Monday at 11 a.m. (CT) in the round of 64. Earlier this season, Wooten picked up the highest ranked win of her career with a three-set victory over Akli, who was ranked No. 3 at the time. The tournament will take place at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
This season, Wooten finished with a team-best 15 wins in dual play and 22 overall since the start of last fall. The Torrance, Calif.-native racked up seven wins over ranked opponents, including the victory over Akli.
Wooten also played a major role in the team's success, as Wake Forest compiled 15 wins throughout the spring and have now earned double-digit victories in 10-consecutive seasons (excluding the COVID-shortened 202 season). Seven of the 15 victories came against ranked teams, with three coming against teams inside the top 30.
The Deacs have also made eight-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances under head coach Jeffrey Wyshner. Wake Forest is one of just 21 schools to accomplish this feat as well as one of six ACC institutions to do so.
