Graduate student Matthew Thomson became the fourth Wake Forest player to accomplish the feat three times.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Tying a program record set in 2018 and 2019, five members of the Wake Forest men's tennis team were named to the 2024 Men's Tennis All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday's nod marks the third-consecutive year Matthew Thomson earned the honor as he is now one of just four Demon Deacons all-time to be named to the All-ACC Academic team three times along with Romain Bogaerts, Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim.
In addition to Thomson, Holden Koons, Luca Pow, DK Suresh Ekambaram and Luciano Tacchi completed the list of honorees for Wake Forest. It marked just the third time in program history the team placed five on the list and first time since 2019.
All five players played major roles in leading Wake Forest to its 23rd NCAA Tournament nod and third appearance in the semifinals. The Demon Deacons also reached 30 victories for the sixth time in program history including an 18-1 record at home.
Suresh Ekambaram and Koons were recently named ITA Doubles All-Americans following a stellar 2024 campaign, which saw them reach as high as No. 1 in the ITA rankings. The pair compiled an impressive 9-1 record against conference opponents.
Pow, the ITA Carolina Regional Rookie of the Year, went undefeated in conference play (7-0) and posted an eye-popping 14-0 overall record in the fifth-singles slot. He finished the season on a 19-match winning streak dating back to Feb. 4.
Finally, Luciano Tacchi was lights out in fourth singles with a 14-5 record in that position with four wins over nationally-ranked opponents. He earned the match-clinching victory against Stanford to send Wake Forest to the quarterfinals.
Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0-grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. In addition, student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests during the 2024 season.
