Wake Forest Vice President & Director of Athletics John Currie Appointed to NCAA Division I Council

Currie’s service as a member of the Division I Council adds to a lengthy list of Demon Deacon coaches and staff members in leadership roles with the ACC and NCAA.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest University Vice President & Director of Athletics John Currie was recently selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference's representative on the NCAA Division I Council. Currie's term on the Council will continue through June 2028.
The Council is the high-level group responsible for the NCAA Division I's major day-to-day issues and long-term decision-making which reports to the NCAA Board of Directors. Its members include athletics directors, administrators, senior women administrators, faculty athletics representatives, and student-athletes. The Council oversees all NCAA Division I Committees, including the Football and Men's /Women's Basketball Oversight Committees.
"I am honored to be chosen by Commissioner Jim Phillips to represent the ACC on the NCAA Division I Council," Currie said. "Obviously we are in a time of disruptive change in college athletics and it's critical that we protect the essence of student-athlete experience and opportunity while facing realities which will require us to reshape our operating model. Going all the way back to former Wake Forest AD Jim Weaver serving as the ACC's first commissioner in 1953, we have a long history of Demon Deacon engagement in leadership of our conference and the NCAA, and I am grateful for the efforts of my colleagues in these endeavors."
In addition to Currie, Wake Forest coaches and staff currently serving on committees or leadership positions in the ACC and NCAA include:
