Demon Deacons Continue Fall Competition with 2024 ITA All-American Championships

The nine-day event opens on Saturday with pre-qualification before qualifying rounds start Monday.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest women's tennis will continue their fall season this week, as two Demon Deacons will travel to Cary, N.C. to compete in the annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships. The tournament is scheduled from Saturday, Sept. 21 to Sunday, Sept. 29.
Pre-qualification play will begin on Saturday and run through Sunday afternoon, before the qualifying rounds on Monday (Sept. 23) and Tuesday (Sept. 24). The main draw will take place from Sept. 25-29.
For the Deacs, graduate student Anna Zhang and junior Whitley Pate will both be participating in singles and doubles action. Zhang will start competition against Kenna Erickson of LSU at 9 a.m. on Saturday, while Pate will begin her tournament by facing Zeynep Erman of Cincinnati at 10:30. The pair will begin doubles play against Iowa's Schmidt/Hayashida at 4 p.m.
For the third consecutive season, the ITA All-American Championships will be hosted by North Carolina, Duke, and NC State at the Cary Tennis Park.

Wake Forest opened its fall schedule at the 37th Annual Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic from Sept. 13-15, playing in multiple singles and doubles matches within a field of 14 schools.
Freshmen Brianna Baldi and Kady Tannenbuam both won their respective singles flights in their first collegiate competitions. Tannenbaum also picked up two wins in doubles action, as her and junior Nevena Carton made the final in their doubles flight.
Sophomore Sankavi Garnder and redshirt sophomore Krystal Blanch both picked up opening round wins in singles play, while graduate student Makayla Mills and junior Whitley Pate both picked up wins in their consolation matches as well.
In total, the Demon Deacons recorded 12 wins in both singles and doubles action to start the 2024 fall season.
2023 ITA All-American Championships
In last year's edition of the ITA All-American Championships, senior Casie Wooten advanced all the way to the quarterfinals, while picking up a top-10 victory in the round of 32.
Senior Brooke Killingsworth and graduate student Marcella Cruz also competed in the doubles bracket, losing in the first qualifying round.
