Deacs Host Cardinal in Midweek Matchup

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team returns to play in Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum this week when they host ACC newcomer the Stanford Cardinal on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Tip is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will air live on ESPNews.
The Deacs are coming off their second-consecutive ACC road win of the season and the first win at Miami for Wake Forest since 2007. Wake defeated the Hurricanes, 88-78, this week and is now 4-1 in ACC play. Wake is currently 8-0 at The Joel this season and are looking to start the fourth straight season 10-0 at home. The Demon Deacons join Duke as the only league teams undefeated at home this season.
Against the Hurricanes, Wake forced 14 turnovers on Saturday, moving their season total to 232 through the first 16 games of the season, which ranks second in the ACC. The Deacs recorded nine steals on Saturday, moving them into second in the ACC with 127 steals. With their three blocks against Miami, the Demon Deacons moved their season total up to 73 through 16 games, which is second in the ACC this season.
Cameron Hildreth was hot from the start, swishing in a career-high six three pointers en route to 31 points, leading all individuals. It was the second performance of 30-plus points in his career. The Worthing, England native finished 11-of-16 from the floor (68.8 percent) in 38 minutes played.
Hunter Sallis took the momentum in the final 20 minutes – scoring 15 of his 22 points. The senior guard has now plugged in 20 or more points in each of his last five showings. He additionally added four rebounds and three assists to his line on Saturday.
Wake Forest recorded its second-best shooting performance of the season, going 35-of-64 (54.7 percent) from the field. In the second half alone, the Deacs shot 70 percent from the field, connecting on 21-of-30 shots in the period. The Deacs dominated in the paint on Saturday, outscoring the Hurricanes 50-20 in the paint, as the 50 points marked a season high.
