
Demon Deacons Secure First Road Win of Season Against Liberty

Freshmen Brianna Baldi and Kady Tannenbaum picked up big wins to propel the Deacs to a 6-1 victory over the Flames.
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Wake Forest women's tennis team secured their first road win of the 2025 season on Friday afternoon, defeating the Liberty Flames 6-1 at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons continued their success in doubles action, as junior Nevena Carton and freshman Kady Tannenbaum picked up a dominant 6-1 victory over Radulova/Chen at second singles. Graduate student Makayla Mills and redshirt sophomore Krystal Blanch secured the doubles point for the Deacs, defeating O'Neill/Turchetto (6-3) at first singles.
With their two doubles wins on Friday, the Demon Deacons improved to 8-0 in doubles matches this season, while No. 44 Carton/Tannenbaum improved to 3-0 as a duo.
In singles play, freshman Brianna Baldi cruised to her third win of the season, defeating Celina Joseph (6-1, 6-0) at fifth singles. Sophomore Sankavi Gownder picked up her own impressive victory at sixth singles, defeating Sadie Daavettila 6-3, 6-2.
Despite Liberty getting a point at second singles to make it 3-1, Tannenbaum clinched the match for the Demon Deacons at fourth singles, defeating Maria Tuchetto 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Carton would secure her own straight-set victory moments later as she defeated Yu-Yun Chen (6-4, 6-3) at first singles.
Junior Whitley Pate would close out the match for the Deacs, battling back from a first set loss to come away with a three-set victory over Yoanna Radulova (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) at third singles.
With the victory over the Flames, head coach Jeffrey Wyshner secured his 190th career victory at Wake Forest, moving him two wins away from becoming the all-time wins leader in program history.
