CORAL GABLES, Fla.- Demon Deacon signee Lorenzo Rodriguez claimed the 2025 Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship with a final score of 227 (-7) on Monday.
Rodriguez's win was highlighted by three under par rounds, including a low six-under 65 in round three, tallying five birdies, an eagle, and carding just one bogey.
Rodriguez finished his second round coming away with one of just four rounds in the 60s to move to the top of the boys' leaderboard.
Three birdies over the last six holes propelled Rodriguez to a 2-under-par 69, leaving him one shot clear of Zimbabwe's Keegan Shutt and Switzerland's Joshua Hess at historic Biltmore Golf Club.
In round three, Rodriguez shot a 6-under-par 65, matching the week's lowest round in the boys' division. Rodriguez's total of 12-under 201 is the lowest since Sebastian Moss ran away with the 2021 title.
"Yeah, it was definitely a stressful one out there", said Rodriguez. "It was definitely a grind out there, but I was able to get it done. I definitely feel like I played better this year compared to last year, even though it was almost the same score. I just feel like I was more mentally there this time. It's a big confidence boost to tell myself I'm a great player. Sometimes I feel like I'm not there yet, but seeing my name next to all those great players is a big shot of confidence."
Rodriguez joins a star studded list of Junior Orange Bowl champions, topped by Tiger Woods (1991) and LPGA Hall of Famer Inbee Park (2002). The roster also includes LPGA major winners Lexi Thompson (2009) and Brooke Henderson (2013), plus current Saudi International champion Joaquin Niemann (2014).
This year's field brings together entrants from such diverse locales as Bermuda, Switzerland, Ecuador, Czechia, Paraguay, Peru, Iceland, Bolivia and Turkey.
Rodriguez has a prestigious history at the highest level of junior golf , and will join the Demon Deacons in the fall of 2025.
