No. 5 Demon Deacons Capture 11th-Straight Defeating Delaware 4-1

10/12/2025 2:05:00 PM | Field Hockey

The Demon Deacons are outscoring opponents 43 to 9 over the win streak.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 5 Wake Forest field hockey team extended their winning streak to 11 games with a 4-1 victory over Delaware Sunday afternoon at Kentner Field.

With the victory, Wake Forest (11-2, 4-0 ACC) extended its winning streak to 11 games, the program's longest since 2006, which the Demon Deacons finished as National Runner-Up.

With the win over the Blue Hens (6-7, 0-0 MPSF), the Deacs also improved to a perfect 7-0 record at Kentner Stadium this season, marking the first 7-0 start at home since 2005.

Following junior Mia Schoenbeck's penalty corner goal in the opening quarter, Wake Forest's attack corner unit has now found the back of the cage in every game during the 11-match streak, contributing 20 of the team's 48 goals this season.

Schoenbeck has scored in eight of the 11 games over the win streak, including each of the last three contests for the Demon Deacons.

Junior Lauren Storey earned a chance at a penalty stroke in the second quarter, converting and scoring her 13th goal of the season. Storey's penalty stroke goal gives her a goal in nine of the last 10 matches.

Senior Amelia Frey tallied her first goal of the season and fourth of her career in the first half, making the most of a rebound opportunity. It marked her first goal since her three-goal sophomore season. She becomes the 10th Demon Deacon to score a goal so far this season.

Sophomore Sarah Mudd tallied her sixth goal in the last four games in the fourth quarter. Along with Schoenbeck and Storey, Mudd is now ranked in the top 10 in the ACC in goals scored with eight on the season.

How It Happened
  • The Demon Deacons applied early pressure on the Blue Hens with four shots and four penalty corners in the opening minutes of the game.
    • On the fourth penalty corner of the game Rory Heslin inserted to Georgia Pollock at the top of the circle and Schoenbeck riffled one to the top left corner, tallying her team-best 14th goal of the season.
  • Early in the second quarter, the Deacs worked the ball into the circle, where the ball popped up for a rocketing shot from Lauren Storey that hit off the post.
    •  It bounced nicely to Amelia Frey, who deflected the rebound into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
  • With 4:20 to go in the first half, senior Ellie Todd made a huge stop on Delaware's first penalty corner of the game to keep the clean sheet for the Demon Deacons.
  • The Deacs quickly worked the ball to the other end and Sarah Mudd earned a penalty stroke for Wake Forest after being tripped up right before a goal scoring opportunity.
    • Storey made the most of the opportunity, firing the penalty stroke into the top left corner of the cage for her 13th goal of the season, giving the Deacs a commanding 3-0 advantage.
  • Wake Forest took the 3-0 lead into the half.
    • The Deacs tallied 11 shots including seven on frame in the first half and also earned five penalty corner opportunities.
    • Todd only had to make one stop in the first half to keep the Blue Hens off the board in the opening 30 minutes of play.
  • The third quarter was scoreless as both teams were held without shots in the quarter.
  • Sophomore Sarah Mudd continued her strong play, tallying her eighth goal of the season to increase the Wake Forest lead to 4-0.
    • She has now scored six goals in the last four games including a hat trick against Queens on Friday night.
  • As time expired in the game, Delaware scored its lone goal of the game off the penalty corner.
  • Wake Forest walked away with its 11th consecutive win, defeating the Blue Hens, 4-1.
Quotables
"
That was a great victory over a talented Delaware team. I really enjoyed watching the speed of our execution in the first half. I thought it was some of the most beautiful hockey we've played all season long. I'm really proud of our players' immediate positive responses after a mistake. I thought we collected ourselves to win the ball back. The scoring distribution again, just love it. I love it when we can have different people putting up points. It was just another great victory for Wake hockey. I'm proud of how we keep growing our game." – Head Coach Jen Averill
