No. 5 Wake Forest Closes ACC Home Slate with Stanford and No. 19 California

The Demon Deacons currently sit atop the ACC standings as the only undefeated team in conference play.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 5 Wake Forest field hockey team concludes its five-game homestand this weekend at Kentner Stadium, hosting Stanford and No. 19 California.
 
The Demon Deacons open the weekend against the Cardinal on Friday, October 17 at 5 p.m. ET on ACC Network Extra.
 
Wake Forest then wraps up the homestand on Sunday, October 19, squaring off against the Golden Bears at noon ET, also on ACCNX.

Opponent History
Wake Forest and Stanford will meet for the ninth time on Friday with the Demon Deacons holding a 5-3 record against the Cardinal in the series.

The Demon Deacons will look to stay perfect against Cal, holding a 12-0 mark against the Golden Bears, including a 6-0 record at Kentner Stadium. 

Wake Forest Highlights
  • The Demon Deacons have climbed to their highest ranking since being ranked fourth in October of 2022. 
  • Wake Forest (11-2, 4-0 ACC) holds its longest winning streak since 2006, a season that saw the Demon Deacons advance to the NCAA Finals, and sit at 7-0 at Kentner this season, entering tomorrow's match.
    • The 11-game streak is tied with Harvard for the longest in the country. 
    • The 4-0 start to ACC play marks the first time since 2005 that the Deacs have earned four-straight wins to start conference play. 
  • The Demon Deacons enter Friday having won 11 consecutive matches while outscoring their opponents 43-9 during that span.
  • Wake's 48 goals this season are tied for third in the country and the Demon Deacons are one of just six teams to score over 45 goals as a team so far. 
  • Wake Forest leads the ACC in shots with 267. 
    • The Deacs lead the ACC by 43 shots, with North Carolina the next closest at 224. 
    • Wake Forest is averaging the most shots on goal per game in the ACC with 11.62. 
    • Over the 11-game streak, the Demon Deacons are outshooting opponents 245 to 81.
      • The 40 shots against Queens marked the most in a game for Wake Forest since at least the 2018 season and was the third time this year the Demon Deacons have had 35 or more shots in a game. 
  • Wake ranks second in the ACC with 89 penalty corners so far this season. 
    • Wake Forest's attack corner unit has now found the back of the cage in every game during the 11-match streak, contributing 20 of the team's 48 goals this season. 
  • Junior Mia Schoenbeck ranks second in the conference with 14 goals through the first 13 matches.
    • The LaGrange, Ky. native's biggest goal of the season thus far came in double overtime to help the Demon Deacons take down No. 2 North Carolina for the first time since 2017. 
    • She added a trio of braces in Wake's wins against Davidson, Longwood and UMass Lowell. 
    • The junior clinched the win over Miami (OH) less than two minutes into the overtime period, sending a laser past the RedHawks keeper. 
    • She completed her first hat trick of the season against Queen. 
    • Schoenbeck has scored in eight of the 11 games over the win streak, including each of the last three contests for the Demon Deacons.
    • She ranks fourth in shots (49) and fifth in shots on goal (28) among ACC student-athletes.
  • Sophomore Lauren Storey leads the conference in both shots (71) and shots on goal (44).
    • She netted her first hat trick of the year against Longwood and added another against UMass Lowell. 
    • She is one of just three ACC athletes to have multiple three-goal games so far this season. 
    • Additionally, she is one of just six in the conference to have scored double-digit goals so far this season, knocking home her 10th of the year against UNC. 
    • She and Schoenbeck are the first pair of Demon Deacon teammates to have double-digit goals since Grashoff and Nicola Pluta in the 2017 season.
  • After scoring just once during her freshman season, back Mia Montag delivered a brace in the opener against Iowa and added two more goals against UMass Lowell.
    • She ranks 10th overall in points in the ACC with 19, adding 11 assists to go along with the four goals.
      • Her 11 assists rank second in the ACC. 
  • After scoring just one goal as a freshman, Sarah Mudd has come on strong this season for the Demon Deacons, contributing multiple goals in two of the last three matches. 
    • The sophomore netted her first career hat trick against Queens to bring her total to seven on the year.
    • She added her eighth of the year on a penalty corner against Delaware. 
  • Of the 14 athletes with 15 or more points so far this season in the conference, Wake Forest holds four of them with Schoenbeck (31), Storey (30),  Montag (19) and Mudd (16). 
    • The Demon Deacons are the only ACC program with four student-athletes over 15 points. 
  • Head Coach Jen Averill picked up her 450th career win earlier this season as the Demon Deacons defeated UMass Lowell 9-1.
