WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Back on its home floor for a third straight outing, Wake Forest volleyball (8-8, 2-3 ACC) put on a stellar offensive display during Wednesday night, en route to a 3-0 sweep over NC State (8-7, 1-4 ACC).
The Demon Deacons' hitters were standouts, as the contest featured a seventh time this fall in which three players reached double figures in kills – junior Patrycja Lagida (13), senior Paige Crawford (12) and graduate student Ryleigh Whitekettle (12). Lagida also notched a new career high in service aces, tallying three to lead all individuals.
Sophomore Becca Bellows posted her fifth double-double of the year, finishing with 25 assists and 12 digs. Fellow setter Rian Baker had a well-rounded showing with 14 assists, eight digs and two aces.
Redshirt junior Sanaa Williams and freshman Sadie Poeck impressed defensively with five blocks apiece. Williams also nailed a career-high eight kills on 10 attacks with only one error (.700).
As a unit, Wake Forest hit .252 from the floor.
With the win, the Deacs defeated NC State for the first time since Oct. 9, 2022.
How it Happened
"I was very happy with how we performed in crunch time," said head coach Jeff Hulsmeyer. "We went long in that first set and had a tight two-point second set that was critical. The fans were wonderful in supporting the team – they really helped us get over the hump in those first two sets. It was probably one of our best offensive performances of the year during set three, and just a great job by everyone. It was a good night and we have to get back to the drawing board preparing for Saturday."
