Wake Forest Faces No. 6 Michigan in Nationally Televised Showdown in Detroit

The Demon Deacons and Wolverines will meet in downtown Detroit at the Little Caesars Arena.

DETROIT - The Wake Forest men's basketball team (2-0, 0-0 ACC) will face its first ranked opponent of the season on Tuesday evening, when the Demon Deacons face No. 6 Michigan (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten) at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. This is the second game of the Wolverine-Deacon Challenge after Wake Forest scored a 72-70 victory over Michigan last November in Greensboro. 

The contest will tip at 6:30 p.m. and air nationally on FS1. 

Last Time Out
Wake Forest completed a 2-0 opening week to the season with an 81-65 victory over Morehead State on Friday evening. 

Sophomore guard Juke Harris experienced a career night with 29 points and nine rebounds while graduate forward Tre'Von Spillers added 16 points and 10 rebounds, marking the Charleston, S.C., native's 18th career double-double. Spillers has now totaled 261 total rebounds as a Demon Deacon, which ranks fifth during the Steve Forbes era.

Coming off the bench, sophomore guard Sebastian Akins finished his second game in a Wake Forest uniform with 15 points, five assists and a career-high seven rebounds. The Concord, N.C., native became the seventh different Demon Deacon to finish with a 15/7/5 statline and first since Hunter Sallis did so on Feb. 15, 2025. He also added a team-high three steals on the night.

Deacs In The Non-Con 
Wake Forest's 78.3 winning percentage in non-conference play since 2021-22 and the 36 victories in out of conference regular season action during that span are tied for the second-best mark in the ACC with Clemson. 

Five of those 36 victories have come against Big Ten opponents including a pair of wins last year against Michigan and Minnesota.

Strong First Week For Juke
Now in his second season with the Demon Deacons, sophomore Juke Harris has showcased his talent at both ends of the court in victories over American and Morehead State. 

In Friday's victory against Morehead State, the Salisbury, N.C., native set new personal bests in points (29) and rebounds (nine) while going 10-of-15 from the field. 

Through Sunday's action, Harris is one of just four players nationally to currently be averaging 23.5 points per game and eight rebounds per contest through two or more games, joined by VMI's TJ Johnson, Northern Arizona's Zack Davidson and Auburn's Keyshawn Hall. 

On The Boards
The Demon Deacons dominated the glass against Morehead State, grabbing 53 total rebounds and tying the most in the Steve Forbes era (Jan. 4, 2022 vs. Florida State). Wake Forest also hauled in 23 offensive rebounds against the Eagles, the most under Forbes and tied for the 12th most in program history since offensive rebounds were recorded (1986- 87). 

The second-chance opportunities were generated across the board, with seven Deacs' finishing with multiple offensive rebounds, including three with three-or-more (Jaylen Cross, Marqus Marion, Tre'Von Spillers). 

Aggressive Defensive Mentality
In Monday's victory over American, the Demon Deacons recorded their second-most steals in a contest in the Steve Forbes era with 16. Overall, the Deacs turned 18 Eagles turnovers into 32 points.

The Matchup 
Coming off a Big Ten championship, the Wolverines started their 2025-26 campaign with a program-record 121 points in a 121-78 victory over Oakland. Sixty-nine of the Wolverines' points came in the first half, also a program record for a single half. 

Additionally, the Wolverines hit a school-record 16 three pointers and dished out 31 assists. 

UAB transfer Yaxel Lendeborg was named to the AP Preseason All-America Team and to the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Player of the Year Watch List. He began his graduate campaign with 12 points and four rebounds in 22 minutes of action.
