Deacs In Search of 4-0 Start

The Demon Deacons will look to improve to 4-0 for the first time since the 2021-22 season when the Deacs won the first seven games of the season.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After winning the first three games to start the season, the Wake Forest women's basketball team will look to continue its perfect start to the season Thursday at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, playing host to Mercer for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
The Demon Deacons (3-0) are coming off a perfect opening week propelled by 17.3 assists per game, a +10.7 rebounding margin and multiple dominant performances in the paint. The Deacs saw the emergence of multiple new additions throughout the week including an Opening Night double-double from freshman Milan Brown and back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts from redshirt junior guard Raven Preston. Going into week two, the Deacs ranked 37th nationally and third in the ACC, holding opponents to just 29.4 shooting from the field while also ranking 67th with 45.7 rebounds per game.
The Bears (2-1) lone loss this season came in a 72-51 loss to Clemson on Nov. 6. So far this season, Mercer has scored 61 or fewer points in each game but have also allowed less than points in each of their wins. The Bears are led by junior guard and Robert Morris transfer Micah O'Dell who is averaging 14.7 in the first three contests. O'Dell led the way on Monday night in a win over Gardner-Webb, netting a season-high 20 points on 7-of-12 (.583) including going 4-of-6 from three.
Tipoff for Thursday is scheduled for 6 p.m. (ET) at LJVM Coliseum.

Assists On Made Baskets
Wake Forest tallied 22 total assists on the night on 31 made baskets (71.0 percent), marking the highest percentage of the season.
In three games this season, the Demon Deacons have totaled 52 assists on 81 field goals (64.2 percent) which would mark the highest percentage in the Megan Gebbia era.
The Deacs did an excellent job of moving the ball last season, as they assisted on 394 of 667 made baskets this season (59.1 pct.). This was the highest assist percentage in the Gebbia era and the assist percentage ranks in the top 70 percent in the nation according to HerHoopStats.
In 2023-24, the Deacs assisted 404 of 694 made field goals (58.2 percent).
Forcing Them Over
The Deacs forced the Pirates into 17 turnovers on Sunday, of which led to 12 points off turnovers in the game. The Deacs have forced 10 or more takeaways 70 times in the last 74 games. The 74-game stretch goes back to January of 2022.
Through three games, the Demon Deacons have forced 14.0 turnovers per game.
Owning the Paint
The Demon Deacons had another excellent game in the paint, with 56 points posted inside while allowing the Pirates to score just eight points in the paint, a 48-point differential.
Across three games, the Deacs have totaled 130 points in the paint including having over 45 in the last two games.
Sharpshooting Deacs
Wake Forest finished Opening Night with seven threes including four from junior guard/forward Mary Carter.
The Deacs finished the 2024-25 season knocking down 159 threes (5.5 3FGM per game). This included seven games with eight or more threes made.
Through the first three seasons under head coach Megan Gebbia, the Demon Deacons have hit 590 threes in 95 games under her direction (6.2 3FGM per game).

- The Deacs had 22 assists on Sunday, the most since Wake Forest had 24 helpers in a victory over Saint Louis the North Shore Showcase in Nov. 2023. The Deacs assisted on 22 of 31 made baskets (71.0 percent) which was the Demon Deacons highest percentage so far this season.
- With a team-high 13 points, six rebounds and four assists, redshirt-junior guard Raven Preston recorded another solid performance for the Demon Deacons. The Elon-transfer has been clutch at the stripe, with a .733 free-throw percentage so far this season.

- The Deacs were led by balanced scoring across the board. Senior forward Olivia Summiel led the team with 13 points on 5-of-9 (56 percent) shooting in addition to eight rebounds. Sophomore forward Raegyn Conley finished with 11 points while shooting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
- Sophomore guard Elise Williams had a solid statline of 10 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals. Junior guard Jewel Spear recorded 10 points and six rebounds.
