
Deacs Travel to Pittsburgh for First True Road Game of the Season

The Demon Deacons are looking to improve to 2-1 in conference play for the first time since the 2019-20 season when the Deacs started 3-1 in ACC play.
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team is set to play in its first road game of the season, traveling to Pitt Thursday for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff at the Petersen Events Center.
The Demon Deacons (11-3, 1-1 ACC) are off to their best start in 15 years and are looking to have their best start to conference play since the 2019-20 season when the Deacs started ACC play 3-1. In the first 14 games, they have been propelled by 17.9 assists per game which ranks 29th in the country and second in the ACC. The Deacs have had the emergence of sophomore forward Grace Oliver as she is averaging a team-high 14.1 points per game and also ranking in the top 10 nationally with 63.0 percent shooting from the floor which leads the ACC. Going into Thursday, the Deacs ranked 11th nationally and first in the ACC, holding opponents to just 33.6 shooting from the field and also ranking 42nd in scoring defense with just 55.6 points per game allowed while also ranking 38th with 29.0 defensive rebounds per game.
The Panthers (7-8, 0-2 ACC) are still in search of their first conference victory of the season after dropping the opening two games to Clemson (73-41) and Notre Dame (94-59). Through the early part of the season, Pitt has been one of the better rebounding teams in the country, ranking 60th nationally with 41.20 rebounds per game. On the glass, the Panthers are led by Fatima Diakhate who ranks fourth in the ACC with 8.9 rebounds per game. Her six double doubles this season is tied for the 12th most in the country. Additionally, the Panthers have been called for the 12th fewest fouls in the country, averaging just 12.9 fouls per game which is also the fewest per game in the ACC.
Tipoff for Thursday is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (ET) at Petersen Events Center.

Oliver Named ACC Player of the Week
Wake Forest women's basketball sophomore forward Grace Oliver was named the ACC Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
In a win over Gardner-Webb last Monday, Oliver finished the night going a perfect 14-for-14 from the floor, setting the ACC and Wake Forest record for field goal attempts without a miss. The previous ACC record was 12-of -12 from the floor by four players and was last done by Kalista Walters (Pittsburgh) against Chicago State on Dec. 31, 2017.
Additionally, this is just the ninth known occurrence in NCAA history of a player making 14 or more shots without a miss and first since Tinara Moore (CMU) on Jan. 9, 2016.
Since the turn of the century, only four players in Division-I have had 14 or more field goal attempts without a miss:
Additionally, she recorded a new career-high with 30 points, breaking her previous high of 21 points against Mercer on Nov. 13. It also marks the first 30-plus point game by a Wake Forest forward since Dearica Hamby tallied 32 points against Georgia Tech on Feb. 28, 2015.
Defensive Deacs
Wake Forest has remained a top competitor defensively well into the season, both nationally and in the ACC. Through 14 games, the Demon Deacons sit fourth in the conference, allowing 55.6 points per game and close behind the top teams.
Additionally, the Deacs rank first in the ACC and 11th in the nation with a 33.6 field goal percentage defense.
Assists On Made Baskets
Wake Forest tallied 27 total assists on the night on 30 made baskets (90.0 percent), marking the most assists in a single game in the Gebbia era and the most since at least 2009-10. In 14 games this season, the Demon Deacons have totaled 250 assists on 357 field goals (70.0 percent) which would mark the highest percentage in the Megan Gebbia era.
The Deacs did an excellent job of moving the ball last season, as they assisted on 394 of 667 made baskets this season (59.1 pct.). This was the highest assist percentage in the Gebbia era and the assist percentage ranks in the top 70 percent in the nation according to HerHoopStats.
In 2023-24, the Deacs assisted 404 of 694 made field goals (58.2 percent).
Forcing Them Over
The Deacs forced the Bulldogs into 11 turnovers on Monday, and have forced 10 or more takeaways 81 times in the last 85 games, a stretch dating back to January of 2022.
Through 14 games, the Demon Deacons have forced 16.1 turnovers per game.
Owning the Paint
The Demon Deacons had another excellent game in the paint, with 36 points posted inside, while allowing Gardner-Webb to score 18 points inside, a 18-point differential.
Across 14 games, the Deacs have totaled 494 points in the paint (35.3 per game).
Sharpshooting Deacs
Wake Forest launched a season-best 11 threes, spurred by sophomore Aurora Sørbye who went 5-for-7 in three point shooting against the Bulldogs. So far this season, the Demon Deacons have knocked down 85 threes (6.1 3FG per game).
The Deacs finished the 2024-25 season knocking down 159 threes (5.5 3FGM per game). This included seven games with eight or more threes made.

- Individually, sophomore guard Rylie Theuerkauf led the team with 23 points on 6-of-13 from the floor with a pair of threes. She also went a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe Sunday afternoon, which helped the team finish above 80 percent from the line for the 11th time this season.
- Theuerkauf finished the year with a team-best 12.0 points per-game, reaching double-figures in 19 of her 29 outings with four 20-point games.
