
Tony Bresky Announces 2026 Spring Schedule

The reigning NCAA Champions will open the season with a doubleheader against ETSU and St. Joseph’s at home on Jan. 11.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Coming off of one of the most dominant seasons in NCAA history capped off by the program's second NCAA title, Wake Forest men's tennis head coach Tony Bresky officially unveiled the 2026 spring slate Wednesday afternoon.
The Demon Deacons' 2026 schedule features four teams that ended the 2025 season ranked in the top 10, eight teams in the top 20 and two that joined Wake Forest in last season's NCAA semifinals (Texas and Stanford).
The Slate
Carrying a 28-match home winning streak into 2026, the Demon Deacons will open the season on Sunday, Jan. 11 inside the Wake Forest Tennis Center as they host a double-header against ETSU and St. Joseph's.
Wake Forest will hit the road for the first time as it heads to Knoxville, Tennessee for a high-quality road clash against the Volunteers on Jan. 18 before heading to Austin for a rematch of last seasons' ITA Indoor semifinal against Texas on Jan. 21. Of note, the Deacs went 8-0 in the state of Texas last season.
On Jan. 23-24, the Deacs will host ITA Kickoff weekend, welcoming Vanderbilt, North Carolina and Virginia Tech to the Wake Forest Tennis Center for a chance to qualify for the ITA National Indoors in Waco/Dallas, Texas (Feb. 13-17). Last season, Wake Forest claimed its second-ever ITA Indoor crown by defeating TCU, 4-3, in a thrilling championship match in Dallas.
In between Kickoff Weekend and National Indoors, the Deacs will have another tough road test as they head north for a match against Ohio State. The Demon Deacons will look to win back-to-back matches against the Buckeyes for the first time since 1971-1972.
Wake Forest's three road non-conference matches all come against teams that ended 2025 ranked inside the top 15 with Texas (No. 3), Ohio State (No. 6) and Tennessee (No. 15) all reaching the super regionals a year ago.
For the fourth-consecutive season, Wake Forest will take on Baylor as the Bears visit Winston-Salem on Feb. 22 with Coastal Carolina serving as the second match of a Sunday doubleheader.
Conference play will begin with the Deacs welcoming Clemson (Feb. 27) and Georgia Tech (March 1) to the Wake Forest Tennis Center. The following weekend, Wake Forest will head to the state of Florida to take on Miami (March 6) and Florida State (March 8).
The Deacs will have four-consecutive home dates beginning with a battle against Notre Dame on March 13 and capped off by a massive clash against Virginia on March 22.
Wake Forest will then hit the road for back-to-back weekends with matches against Big Four foes North Carolina (March 27) and Duke (March 29) before traveling to the west coast for tests against Stanford (April 3) and Cal (April 5).
The regular season finale will come on April 11, where Wake Forest will honor its seniors against rival NC State.
The 2026 ACC Men's Tennis Championships will be held in Cary. N.C. from April 16-19 at Cary Tennis Park. The NCAA Tournament will get underway on May 2 and will run until the national championship on May 17.

The Bresky Era
Since arriving at Wake Forest, head coach Tony Bresky has enjoyed a highly-decorated career, winning ITA National Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2025, along with garnering ACC Coach of the Year honors in 2013, 2016 and 2025.
Bresky led Wake Forest to its first-ever national title in 2018, after accumulating a 33-2 mark and most recently led one of the most dominant seasons in collegiate tennis history as the Deacs won 40 matches en route to capturing the ACC regular season title, ITA Indoor Title and NCAA Championship.
Individually, Bresky has coached two ACC Players of the Year (Noah Rubin and Melios Efstathiou), along with 40 All-ACC selections and 12 ITA Singles All-Americans.
During his tenure at Wake Forest, Bresky has amassed 370 wins. Of note, early in 2023 with a victory over No. 6 Tennessee, Bresky became the winningest coach in program history, surpassing the legendary Jim Leighton.
Wake Forest's Team Success Under Bresky
Brian Baker, Associate Head Coach
A former ATP world No. 52 singles and No. 29 doubles professional player, Brian Baker enters his third season with the Wake Forest men's tennis staff after spending the previous three years at the United States Tennis Association (USTA), in charge of developing junior players.
In his role with the USTA, Baker served as the main USA federation coach at the junior grand slams and coached Bruno Kuzuhara to No. 1 in the junior world rankings and a victory at the Junior Australian Open in 2022. Additionally, Baker coached Michael Zheng to the finals of the Junior Wimbledon Championships in 2022 and Learner Tien to the finals of the Junior Australian Open in 2023.
Prior to his work with the USTA, Baker had stops as an assistant coach at Belmont and Vanderbilt over a six-year span.
Baker enjoyed a decorated playing career, as he represented Team USA in singles and doubles at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Additionally, Baker won main draw matches at all four grand slams, including reaching the final 16 at Wimbledon in 2012. Of note, Baker owns a singles victory over Novak Djokovic.
Vinny Gillespie, Assistant Coach
A former ITA top-50 singles player and Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Player of the Year, Vinny Gillespie also enters his third season at Wake Forest after previously serving as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Drake.
Gillespie brings a wealth of coaching experience to Wake Forest as he spent the past several years coaching junior players, both in the United States and in the United Kingdom.
Along with being named MVC Player of the Year at Drake in 2017, Gillespie earned numerous awards during his playing career, including garnering conference player of the week accolades eight times. As a student-athlete, Gillespie achieved national rankings in singles (No. 48) and doubles (No. 23) during his career.
