The Demon Deacons defeated TCU, 4-3, following a three-set, match-clinching win from Stefan Dostanic on court one.
DALLAS – Behind a clutch three-set victory from graduate Stefan Dostanic on court one with the eyes of the tennis world on him, the Wake Forest men's tennis team has claimed its second ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a 4-3 victory over TCU Tuesday night inside the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas, Texas.
The Demon Deacons (14-0, 0-0 ACC) are one of 13 schools to have multiple ITA National Indoor Team Championship titles as well as one of six ACC schools to do so.
The Deacs have also now matched the best start in program history tying the 2018 National Championship team for most wins to open a campaign. Wake Forest is also a combined 49-16 in singles and 28-5 in doubles so far this season, taking all 14 doubles points.
Wake Forest got off to a hot start on court one in doubles and didn't look back, as junior DK Suresh Ekambaram and graduate Stefan Dostanic proved that they were one of the nation's best. The duo took down the reigning NCAA doubles champions Lui Maxted/Pedro Vives in dominant, 6-2 fashion.
Suresh and Dostanic are now 7-1 together this season with four wins over ranked opponents, with Maxted/Vives coming in as the No. 2-ranked pair.
After the Horned Frogs took the second doubles court, all eyes turned to court three where the graduate pair of Ioannis Xilas and Franco Capalbo battled TCU's Duncan Chan and Albert Pedrico Kravtsov. The Wake Forest pair remained calm, broke Kravtsov/Chan for the 7-5 win and secured the doubles point.
Xilas/Capalbo have now won five-consecutive matches together and moved to 7-1 on the year. Coming into the match, the Horned Frogs (9-2, 0-0 B12) had only dropped one doubles point all season.
In singles, Wake Forest took four of six first sets and set the tone for the rest of the match. Sophomore Luca Pow put Wake Forest up 2-0 after a strong 6-2, 6-3 win over Kravtsov on court six. It marked Pow's 10th win of the season as he was the first Demon Deacon to reach double digit wins this campaign.
TCU took courts two and three and evened the match, but the Demon Deacons responded with a win on court four courtesy of Xilas. The Greek outlasted Chan in a set-tiebreak and defeated the Horned Frog, 6-2, 7-6 (11-9). Xilas is now 8-2 this season with three-consecutive wins.
The match was once again leveled as the Horned Frogs claimed court five right before TCU's Jack Pinnington forced a third set in first singles.
The moment didn't phase the veteran Dostanic, as he broke Pinnington right away and held serve until the Demon Deacons were crowned national champions.
Five of Dostanic's six wins in a Wake Forest uniform so far have been against ranked opponents in the No. 1 singles spot.

From Coach Bresky
"What a fantastic match in the finals there. That's a great TCU team that we had to battle and they brought out the best in us. It was an incredible finish. It came down to one set between two of the best players in college tennis and it was incredibly high-level tennis. I'm just super happy for everyone associated with our program, all of our fans, our support staff, our administration that allows us to do this and provides us the support that we need to do it. Our coaches, Brian (Baker) and Vinny (Gillespie) do a great job. Most importantly I'm happy for all of the guys, they deserve it. They worked incredibly hard. They are all great teammates and excellent representatives of the Wake Forest athletics program and the university. I'm very happy to be able to get it done." - Head coach Tony Bresky
