Wake Forest Begins Week at LJVM Coliseum Hosting Virginia

The Demon Deacons will be seeking their 60th home victory since the start of the 2021-22 season.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's basketball (19-8, 11-5 ACC) will host two home games at LJVM Coliseum this week, starting with a Wednesday night showdown with Virginia (13-14, 6-10 ACC). Tip-off for the contest is scheduled for 9 p.m. and the game will air nationally on ESPNU. 

Currently tied for fourth place in the ACC, the Demon Deacons will be seeking to earn their 12th conference victory this season and their sixth home victory against a conference opponent. 
 
Overall, the Deacs are 11-2 at home this season and have accumulated 59 victories inside LJVM Coliseum since the start of the 2021-22 campaign – a total that ranks tied for fifth-best in the country over the last four seasons. 

Last Time Out
Returning to game action for the first time in seven days on Saturday, Wake Forest battled for 40 minutes before falling to NC State in an 85-73 decision.

Senior guard Cameron Hildreth led the Deacs with a team-high 16 points, in addition to four rebounds and three assists in 38 minutes. Senior forward Tre'Von Spillers contributed 15 points while going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.

Senior guard Hunter Sallis pieced together a line of 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Senior center Efton Reid III rounded out the double-digit scoring with 12 points and also grabbed four rebounds. Freshman wing Juke Harris chipped in nine points as a reserve.

Wake Forest finished with 13 assists on 22 made baskets. Defensively, the team forced 13 turnovers by NC State.

Since the 2021-22 season, Wake Forest has collected 59 victories at LJVM Coliseum, tied for the fifth-most nationally during that span.

Defensive Dominance
With four regular season games remaining on its schedule, the Demon Deacons have maintained their reputation as one of the conference's top defensive teams. Wake Forest ranks first in three-point field goal percentage defense (30.4 percent) and second in overall field goal percentage defense (39.7). In ACC play, the Deacs are tied with Duke for the top spot in field goal percentage defense at a 40.4 clip.

Through 27 games, the Demon Deacons have forced 366 turnovers, the second-highest mark in the ACC. Additionally, ACC opponents have committed 10-plus turnovers in 13 of 16 games against Wake Forest.

The Deacs have protected the basket well to rank third in the conference with 107 blocks, good enough for a 3.96 per-game average. Wake Forest's pressure on the ball has led to the team resting fourth in the ACC in steals (7.26 per game).

Through the weekend's action, Virginia ranks top-five in defense (70.2 points per game allowed), team free throw percentage (78.6 percent), assist to turnover ratio (+1.73) and assists per game (15.5) in ACC play. 

This season, the Cavaliers have been led by Isaac McKneely who has started all 27 contests and averaged 13.9 points per game.
