Wake Forest Heads West for Back-to-Back Road Matchups

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team is heading to the west coast for matchups with Stanford and California this week. First up on Wednesday night, the Deacs will face the Cardinals inside Maples Pavilion. Tip is set for 11 p.m. ET and the game will air live on ESPNU.
 
Wake Forest is coming off its 11th home win of the season Saturday against Pitt, 76-74. The Demon Deacons had one of their best shooting performances of the season against the Panthers, connecting on 24-of-46 (52.2 percent) field goal attempts on Saturday. The Deacs continued their strong second-half shooting against Pittsburgh, shooting 50.0 percent from the field while connecting on 13-of-26 shots in the final 20 minutes. The team shared the ball well to finish with 12 assists on 24 made baskets.
 
With seven blocks against Pitt, the Deacs have now blocked 98 shots on the season, which ranked second in the ACC. Wake Forest went into Saturday's game recording 7.3 steals per game in conference play, which ranked third in the ACC, and notched seven steals against the Panthers. The Demon Deacons matched their best free throw shooting performance of the season on Saturday, connecting on 20-of-22 (90.9 percent) from the line against the Panthers. The Deacs went a perfect 11-of-11 from the line in the second half.
 
A trio of Demon Deacons reached double figures in scoring against Pitt, led by Cameron Hildreth's game-high 24 points. The senior also added five rebounds and four rebounds. Sophomore Ty-Laur Johnson had a big second half, finishing with a season-high 16 points, five assists and two blocks. The guard went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Senior Hunter Sallis chipped in 13 points, including a big late triple. He shot 54.5 percent from the floor while adding five rebounds and two steals.

The Matchup
The Cardinal is coming off a road loss at SMU over the weekend that ended a four-game win streak. Veterans Oziyah Sellers and Maxime Raynaud led Stanford in the loss with 19 and 18 points apiece. In the last matchup between the Cardinal and the Deacs, Wake came out on top by 13 and was led by Hunter Sallis (30 points) and Tre'Von Spillers (18 points, 10 rebounds).
