The Demon Deacons scored seven of their eight runs via the home run on Friday night.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Behind three home runs and a dominant outing from starting pitcher Logan Lunceford, No. 14 Wake Forest cruised to an 8-0 victory over Miami on Friday night at David F. Couch Ballpark.
The Demon Deacons (16-3, 4-0 ACC) are off to the first 4-0 start in conference play since 2003 with the win over the Hurricanes (12-7, 0-1 ACC) to open the series.
Wake Forest has left the yard in all but one game so far this season and has now hit 39 home runs through the first 19 games, including nine in the first four ACC contests.
Junior Jack Winnay launched his team-leading eighth home run in the bottom of the first inning to put the Demon Deacons on the board. The two-run shot with two away marked the 71st and 72nd two-out RBI of the season for Wake Forest.
Third baseman Dalton Wentz launched his second homer of the year with a solo shot to the opposite field to stretch the Wake Forest lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second.
Leading the ACC by seven RBI entering the night, shortstop Marek Houston increased his advantage with a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth, bringing his total to 38 on the year with his team-leading eighth homer of the season.
Center fielder Ethan Conrad ran his hit streak to 11 games with a 2-for-4 night, singling through the right side twice and coming around to score a run.
Starter Logan Lunceford picked up his first quality start as a Demon Deacon, stifling the Miami lineup over 7.0 scoreless innings to match the longest outing of his career. The junior scattered just three hits and punched out eight batters, retiring the Hurricanes in order in five of his seven innings of work.
Junior Zach Johnston finished the shutout with a pair of no-hit innings in the eighth and ninth, including striking out three of the eight batters he faced.
With the fourth shutout of the 2025 campaign, Wake Forest is now tied for the national lead in the category and are tied for fifth in program history for shutouts in a season just 19 games into the season.

FROM COACH WALTER
"Logan Lunceford really set the tone today. He was sharp from the first inning. He was throwing four pitches for strikes and moving his fastball around. I was really impressed with him tonight in keeping a good Miami offensive team off balance all night. Zach Johnston threw the ball really well. We didn't have the best day offensively. We had three balls out of the ballpark, but I'd like to see us grind a little more at our at bats and maybe force their starter out of the game a little sooner. However, a win is a win and anytime you can win the first game of the series, it's huge, especially considering we have a doubleheader tomorrow. Doubleheaders are always tough for everybody, so getting started on the right foot is always important. Hopefully we get a good start out of Matthew Dallas tomorrow and play another good baseball game." - Head Coach Tom Walter

Due to anticipated weather on Sunday, Wake Forest and Miami will conclude the series tomorrow with a doubleheader set to begin at 4 p.m. ET.
