FROM COACH WALTER
"Not exactly how we drew it up, but wins are wins. In our league, you have to stack them when you can get them. I'm really proud of our team for the resilience that they showed to come back in both games. We had some unlikely heroes today. Jacob Burley in game one gets the game-winner and Nate Whysong goes out there in game two and gets three easy outs. I'm really proud of those two guys.
In game two, Kade Lewis got the big home run for us. We knew that Blake [Morningstar] was on short rest and wasn't feeling great, so we were going to have him on a short pitch count. Hoped to get five innings out of him, but he only got four. Haiden [Leffew] wasn't throwing the ball as well as he has been throwing it, but give the Miami hitters credit for that. Matt Bedford came in and got a big shutdown inning for us in the seventh. Needed to make a couple plays in the eighth to change that inning. I was hoping to get the last six outs from Griffin [Green], but since he threw so many pitches in the eighth we didn't want to put him back out there.
Our bullpen in game one was fantastic. I was really pleased with [Luke] Schmolke obviously, as well as [Joe] Ariola behind him, and [Josh] Gunther in the ninth and 10th. They were lights out and were the difference in that game. In game two, we did enough to find a way to win with Kade Lewis' home run being the big swing of the day. Hard to sweep anybody in this league, especially a program like Miami. It's good to be off to a great start." - Head Coach Tom Walter
