
Deacs Take On Loaded Field at Valspar Collegiate

Of the 16 team field, 11 of the participating teams are ranked within the top-25
PALM CITY, FLA.- Coming off their fifth consecutive top-five finish this season, the Wake Forest men's golf team will compete in an elite field at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, with the first and second round of tournament play starting Monday at the Floridian National Golf Club.
The 16 team field includes 11 teams that sit inside the top-25 of the national rankings, 12 of which have won at least one team title this season. This includes the Deacs claiming their first title of the 2024-25 season, winning the Lyon's Links Invitational by twelve strokes in Dublin, Ireland. This was the 46th win under the direction of head coach Jerry Haas.
Last season at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, the Deacs finished in the middle of the pack in ninth place, with a final score of 858 (+6), ahead of a pair of top 10 teams.
Seniors Scotty Kennon and Marshall Meisel are both ranked within the top 50 of the PGA University rankings. Kennon is ranked at No. 27, while Meisel is ranked at No. 41.
Rounds one and two will be played on Monday, March 24 with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start. The final round will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Deacs' Lineup
Scoring average of 71.00…Currently ranked 27th in the PGA Tour University rankings… At the General James Hackler Championship, Kennon recorded a six-under 210 to finish tied for seventh place. After Kennon secured a clutch birdie on 18, this moved the Deacs up the leaderboard to secure their position within the top-5. Additionally, this is the senior's fifth top-ten finish this season.…Kennon claimed his second collegiate title at the 54th Furman Invitational with a score of 202 (-11), the lowest 54-hole score in the history of the tournament…
Scoring average of 71.57…Currently ranked 41st in the PGA Tour University rankings… In his outing at the Battle at Briars Creek, Meisel shot three under-par rounds of 71-69-70 to finish the tournament tied for fourth at 6-under par, just one stroke short of the individual lead. This was the Chevy Chase, Md. native's second top-five finish of his senior season, and second of his career…
Scoring average of 72.38… In his outing at the General James Hackler Championship, Melin went on a tear in his final round, tallying six birdies on the day to finish with a four-under 68. Melin picked up his best finish this spring, and second-best career finish as a Demon Deacon, tying for 13th place at four-under…
Scoring average of 72.20…At the Battle at Briars Creek, Adams finished in 23rd place, posting two under-par rounds……Playing as an individual at the Furman Invitational, senior Collin Adams recorded a season best finish, holding a share of tenth place at three-under...
Scoring average of 72.53…In his outing at the Colleton River Collegiate, Hao grabbed another top-five finish tying his career best as a Demon Deacon and holding a share of fourth place… Hao, who played as an individual at the General James Hackler Championship, finished tied for 23rd at even par (72, 71, 73)...
