Deacs Tie for Third at Colleton River Collegiate

3/3/2025 5:52:00 PM | Men's Golf

The Demon Deacons picked up their fifth top-5 finish of the 2024-25 season

BLUFFTON, S.C.- The Wake Forest men's golf team wrapped up the final day of tournament play at Colleton River Club on Monday.

As a team, the Deacs ended the Colleton River Collegiate holding a share of third place, with a final score of 877 (+13). This was the Deacs fifth top-five finish this season.

Scotty Kennon picked up his fifth top-5 finish of his senior season, ending the final round tied for third place just three strokes off the lead. Kennon's continued effort in round three included carding four birdies and finishing the tournament at 2-under par (74-66-74).

Sophomore Tom Haberer finished inside the top 20 at T14, carding his best round in the final round at even par. Haberer led in the 80 player field in scoring on par fours over three rounds.

Senior Marshall Meisel led the Deacs in the final round carding a two-under 70. Meisel started round three off strong with back-to-back birdies on holes No. 1 and 2, and had a bogey free back nine to finish tied for 17th place.

Climbing two spots up the leaderboard, graduate student DJ Francey shot a final-round of 74 to finish the event T42 at 10-over. Junior Jakob Melin carded a three-over 75 in his final round, tying for 47th.

From Coach Haas:

"What a fantastic event this was, the club at Colleton River and the members are first class. They had flags representing the countries of the participants and the members who are alumni of these great universities, which always makes a great week. After a very slow first nine holes, we played some better golf. We are a team that can improve with some confidence and continued belief. The Deacs will be back soon. Congratulations to Michigan State on the win, well played by them. Go Deacs!"

Next Up

The Deacs will travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina from March 16-18 for the General James Hackler Championship at the Myrtle Beach Dunes Club.
