The nine run frame marked the most runs in an inning since scoring 10 against NC A&T a season ago.
Eight different Demon Deacons (11-3) recorded hits in the contest, led by multi-hit efforts from Ethan Conrad, Kade Lewis, Matt Scannell, Dalton Wentz, Javar Williams and Jack Winnay against the Mountaineers (6-6).
Freshman Chris Levonas made his collegiate debut in the contest, working a scoreless bottom of the first. The righty got his first strikeout as a Demon Deacon with a nasty slider for the second out of the frame.
Relievers Griffin Green and Zach Johnston combined to retire nine-straight over the middle innings to keep the Demon Deacons in the contest.
For the second-straight game, Austin Hawke and Conrad both had extra-base hits. Hawke ripped a double down the left field line to open the second inning, while Conrad ran his home run total to four on the season with a solo shot over the wall in left for back-to-back games with a homer.
Lewis ran his hit streak to four games with a two-out single back up the middle in the top of the fifth and came around to score on freshman Wentz's ACC-leading eighth double of the year.
Pinch hitter Matt Scannell delivered the big blow with a two-run double down the right field line to give Wake Forest its first lead of the game in the top of the seventh. Scannell would score on Williams' RBI single.
After loading the bases again, Lewis added his second hit of the night with a two-out, two-RBI double into left center, before scoring on a two-RBI single by Wentz that cleared the bases and made it 11-3.
The nine-run seventh inning marked the most runs scored in a single inning since the Deacs scored 10 against NC A&T a season ago.
Winnay added two more runs in the ninth on the first triple of the year for Wake Forest, as well as the first of his career, and came home on an RBI fielder's choice from Hawke to cap the scoring for the Demon Deacons.
Freshman Nate Whysong made his collegiate debut in a relief appearance during the eighth inning as he forced the Mountaineers into a double play and a flyout to center. Sophomore Nate Brittain closed out the game for the Deacs as he retired the side in the bottom of the ninth.

FROM COACH WALTER
"Feels great. We needed that win and this is a tough place to win. They're a good Sun Belt team and a well-coached program. I was really happy that we got most of our runs off their two big bullpen pieces. I was glad we had really good at-bats against them because those are the kind of guys that we're going to see in the ACC. Happy with this win and happy with the way that we pitched the ball. We got some guys in there in Levonas, Whysong, Dressler and Brittain. Some of those guys hadn't pitched at all. I was happy to see those guys out there. We think [Levonas] is going to be a starter for us and really soon so we wanted to make sure he started the inning clean and that he starts to get into that pre-start routine. I was really proud of Lev and how he threw the baseball." - Head Coach Tom Walter
