Wake Forest Matches Program Record with 13th ACC Regular Season Victory

3/8/2025 5:20:00 PM | Men's Basketball

This marks the fourth time in program history the Demon Deacons have won 13 ACC regular season games and the second time in four seasons.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's basketball team (21-10, 13-7 ACC) held its regular season finale against Georgia Tech (16-15, 10-10 ACC) on Saturday afternoon inside LJVM Coliseum, routing the Yellow Jackets with a complete performance in a 69-43 victory.

With the result, the Demon Deacons have now claimed their 13th ACC victory this season, matching the school record for single-season ACC regular season victories with two of those occurrences coming under the guidance of fifth-year head coach Steve Forbes

Additionally, dating back to the 2021-22 season, Wake Forest has now won 47 ACC regular season games over the last four seasons, setting a new school record for regular season conference victories over a four-year span.

Senior center Efton Reid III led the way with his third double-double of the season, tallying 12 points and 13 rebounds while tying his season high in the latter. Six of his boards came off the offensive glass, as he also made five of seven field goal attempts.

Senior guard Cameron Hildreth finished with a team-high 14 points for the afternoon. On the defensive end, the Worthing, England, native was scrappy, collecting a career-best six steals. His backcourt mate, senior guard Hunter Sallis, chipped in 13 points and five rebounds.

Freshman guard Juke Harris and sophomore forward Omaha Biliew both gave a spark off of the bench, contributing nine and seven points, respectively. The pair was also forceful on the glass, as Harris grabbed a career-high eight rebounds while Biliew snagged five to tie his career-best total.

Defensively, the Demon Deacons clamped down as they allowed just 43 points against the Yellow Jackets – the fewest total in a game this season surpassing the previous low mark set in the opener against Coppin State (49) on Nov. 4.

The Demon Deacons also entered the halftime break with their largest lead in ACC play this season at 19 points and second-largest in any regular season game this year.

Prior to the game, the program honored Cameron Hildreth, Hunter Sallis, Efton Reid III, Kevin Dunn and RJ Kennah for Senior and Graduates Day.

How It Happened
  • Wake Forest won the opening tip.
  • Ty-Laur Johnson logged the first Demon Deacon points of the contest, draining a corner three.
  • Cameron Hildreth tallied the Deacs' second three of the afternoon before Tre'Von Spillers got the Deacs in front, 8-5.
  • At the under-16 media timeout of the first half, Wake Forest was holding Georgia Tech to 2-of-9 from the field.
  • Efton Reid III fought through contact for his first points, hauling in a pass from Johnson for the bucket.
  • Hunter Sallis swished a three to move the Deacs ahead 14-10.
  • Omaha Biliew's effective spin move in the paint moved the Deacon run to 6-0 as Wake Forest led 16-10 at the under-12 media timeout.
  • The unanswered stretch would move to 9-0 as Juke Harris beat the clock to bank in a three.
    • During the four-plus minute stretch, Wake Forest held Georgia Tech without a field goal on six-straight attempts.
  • Sallis made a pair of free throws to put Wake Forest up by double digits, 22-11.
  • Reid collected his own miss to thunderously put down a dunk as Wake went in front 24-15 with less than four minutes remaining in the opening period.
  • Out of the under-four timeout, efficient ball movement was capped with Reid laying home his third basket of the game.
  • Hildreth went end-to-end to extend the Wake Forest lead to 28-15.
  • With 90 seconds left in the first half, Sallis hit his second three as the Deacs' lead grew to 31-15.
  • The Deacs took a 34-15 lead into half, as Reid drained a three on Wake's final possession.
    • The lead was the team's largest in ACC play this season and the second largest in any game this season (20 vs. Coppin State).
    • This was also the lowest scoring output in a half this season for Georgia Tech, as the Yellow Jackets' previous low was 19 vs.both SMU and Georgia.
  • Sallis splashed from downtown for the Deacs' first points of the second half, as Wake scored following their seventh steal of the contest.
  • Biliew sank the eighth Wake Forest three of the game as the lead would move to 42-23.
    • It would be the start of an 8-0 run over a 53-second span as Spillers laid it up before Johnson hit on a corner three.
  • Hildreth converted on three free throw attempts as Wake's lead was extended to 50-27 with a little more than 12 minutes remaining.
  • Biliew's powerful slam got Deacon Nation off their feet as the Deacs led 52-28 at the under-12 media timeout.
  • Hildreth registered his fourth steal of the afternoon before Sallis made his fourth basket.
  • Wake continued to go on a run, going 14 unanswered with Reid draining a three to get him to a double-double (12 points and 13 rebounds).
  • Harris pulled in his seventh rebound, a new season-high for the freshman.
  • The Demon Deacons closed out the win, defeating Georgia Tech, 69-43.

Coach's Comments
"What a great way to send out our seniors today. Really pleased for them. The crowd did an unbelievable job of cheering them on and being here early to recognize them. We've had an amazing crowd all year long. We've been averaging over 10,000 fans in home games during league play this season. That's outstanding. You can't really script it any better for a senior day. We had the three seniors score in double figures. Efton [Reid III] almost had a double-double at half time. Defensively, we were really good the entire game and we were able to get Kevin [Dunn] and RJ [Kennah] into the game at the end. It was exciting.

We made 11 threes. The game is a lot easier when those go in, and when you couple that with the way that we defend, we're pretty tough to beat. We did a really good job of changing ball screen coverages. We haven't done that a lot this year, but we had three different ones that we used in the first half and we used two in the second to keep Nathan George off balance. They are also really hard to score against because they have great rim defense, so we had to make shots. We had nine kills, so that tells you how well we defended today.

The bench also helped us. Omaha [Biliew] had some great moments with seven points and five rebounds. Juke [Harris] was also really active. He had eight rebounds, got his hands on the ball, and made a big three in the corner. It was a really solid team win to finish out the year and to have some momentum heading into next week in Charlotte." - head coach Steve Forbes
