The Demon Deacons are back in action on Tuesday against Liberty.
Sophomore Cam Nelson and shortstop Marek Houston delivered multi-hit performances for Wake Forest at the top of the lineup, while both also reached base on a walk.
Driving in a pair of runs, third baseman Kade Lewis tied Houston for the team lead with 48 RBI on the season. Lewis joined Nelson and Houston with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4 on the afternoon.
Left fielder Antonio Morales tied the game in the fifth inning with a solo blast to right field for his third of the season.
Sophomore Haiden Leffew turned in his third-straight appearance of at least an inning of work without allowing a hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Boston College scored a pair of runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
- A sacrifice fly off the bat of third baseman Kade Lewis got a run back for the Demon Deacons in the bottom half.
- Center fielder Cam Nelson gunned down a runner at third base to cap a scoreless second inning for Wake Forest.
- The Eagles add two more runs in the third.
- Wake Forest manufactured a run in the bottom of the third with a single back up the middle from freshman Dalton Wentz to cut the deficit to 4-2.
- Starter Blake Morningstar worked a nine-pitch top of the fourth to get the Deacs back in the dugout.
- Reliever Griffin Green got Wake Forest out of a jam with a groundball back to him to keep B.C. off the board in the fifth.
- After a leadoff single from shortstop Marek Houston to start the bottom of the fifth, first baseman Jack Winnay cashed in a two-out RBI with a single through the left side.
- Green needed just nine pitches to get the Deacs back in the dugout trailing by one.
- Wake Forest grabbed a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a pair of two-out runs.
- Left fielder Antonio Morales tied the game with a solo blast to right field for his third of the season.
- Nelson roped a single to center to continue the two-out rally and moved to second on a walk to Houston.
- Lewis gave Wake Forest its first lead of the afternoon, ambushing the first pitch he saw for a single through the right side to score Nelson.
- The Eagles retook the lead with two runs in the seventh.
- Wake Forest loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but a double play got Boston College out of the inning.
- The Demon Deacons left a pair stranded in the bottom of the eighth.
- Sophomore Haiden Leffew worked a perfect top of the ninth with a pair of flyouts and a punchout.
- Boston College took the series finale, 7-5.
"Blake [Morningstar] didn't have his best stuff today, but he battled, gave us a chance to win. We took the lead late and couldn't hang on to it. A couple of walks there with one out, and B.C. did a good job with two outs all weekend getting big hits. We did a good job with two outs today in some big situations getting hits. We had the game right where we wanted it. We had the lead with [Griffin] Green, [Luke] Schmolke and [Haiden] Leffew and couldn't hang on. We've got to bounce back and find a way to win on Tuesday against Liberty." - Head Coach Tom Walter
