Reigning ACC Champions Unveil 2025 Schedule Highlighted by 13 Home Matches

4/21/2025 9:50:00 AM | Men's Soccer

The Demon Deacons will begin their quest towards a fifth ACC Championship with opening non-conference weekend action against powerhouses Maryland and UCF on Aug. 21 and 24.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Following a season in which the program claimed its fourth ACC Championship and an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Wake Forest men's soccer has unveiled its 2025 schedule which is highlighted by 13 matches at Spry Stadium including an opening weekend against Maryland and UCF. With that, exciting ACC contests in Winston-Salem include matches against Clemson, Stanford, Louisville and Notre Dame.

In total, Wake Forest's 13 home opponents this fall have combined to win 472 matches over the last four seasons along with a cumulative total of 21 NCAA Tournament appearances, eight regular season titles, six conference tournament championships and four College Cup appearances. Additionally, those 13 programs have combined for 22 10-plus-win seasons since 2021.

"Each year we look to compile the strongest schedule in the country, and this year's slate will be probably the most challenging we have ever had, but our group came here to play the best. Our team is looking forward to returning to Spry where we are the only program in the country to win more than 100 home matches since 2015," said head coach Bobby Muuss. "Opening with a Maryland program that is among the best annually followed by a UCF squad that was No. 1 in the country in 2023, we look forward to competing in front of Deacon Nation this fall."

The Deacs will open the 2025 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 21, facing a Maryland squad that Wake Forest hosted in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The opening weekend will conclude with Wake Forest's third matchup with UCF in the last four years, as the Deacs and Knights drew 1-1 in their 2024 matchup in Orlando.

UCF earned the school's first-ever No. 1 nationally ranking in 2023 and has made the NCAA Tournament four times the last seven seasons.

Wake Forest will remain in Winston-Salem for the second weekend of action, first hosting Oral Roberts on Thursday, Aug. 28 for a 5:30 p.m. start. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Deacs and Golden Eagles, as Oral Roberts recently claimed the Summit League regular season title in 2022.

The Deacs' next contest will take place on Sunday, Aug. 31, as Wake Forest and St. John's will meet for the first time in 22 seasons.

Wake Forest will conclude a six-match homestand to open the 2025 campaign, facing Lipscomb (Sept. 5) and Campbell (Sept. 9). Lipscomb claimed back-to-back ASUN regular season and tournament titles in 2022 and 2023 while Campbell pulled off the Big South double in 2021.

The Deacs' first away trip will take place on Sept. 12, as Wake Forest will face North Carolina for the 51st time in program history. In the Muuss Era, Wake Forest is a combined 19-4-4 against Big Four opponents with six of those victories coming against the Tar Heels.

Wake Forest will return home for a midweek matchup with UNCW – the Seahawks' first appearance in Winston-Salem since 2009 – on Sept. 16 before hitting the road in ACC action at Virginia on Sept. 19.

Last season, Wake Forest and Virginia met twice with the two programs drawing 1-1 in the regular season before the Deacs beat the Cavaliers 5-1 in the ACC Tournament semifinals en route to a third ACC Championship since 2016.

A crucial three-match homestand will begin on Sept. 22, as the Demon Deacons will host Liberty before back-to-back ACC contests at Spry against Clemson (Sept. 26) and Stanford (Oct. 4).

Wake Forest and Clemson's long standing rivalry continued in 2024, as the Deacs claimed the ACC Championship in penalty kicks over the Tigers before defeating them two weeks later in a 2-1 overtime thriller in the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Stanford, meanwhile, will travel to Spry for the first time in eight seasons as the two sides met in three-straight NCAA Tournament from 2015-17.

The Demon Deacons will open the month of October with the team's first trip to Cal since the 2005 season. The Deacs and Golden Bears have met on four previous occasions with the most recent taking place on Aug. 27, 2023 in a 1-1 draw at Spry.

Wake Forest will return to Spry for a pair of home contests against Louisville (Oct. 17) and Wofford (Oct. 21) before the final road match of the regular season at Pitt (Oct. 24). The Demon Deacons are 5-1-0 all-time against the Panthers with four of those victories coming under Muuss' leadership.

The regular season finale will take place on Oct. 31, as Wake Forest will host a Notre Dame squad that has made two College Cup appearances since 2021.
