
Wake Forest Claims NCAA Championship with 4-2 Victory Over TCU

The Demon Deacons concluded one of the most dominant seasons of collegiate tennis with a 40-1 overall record and two national championships.
WACO, Texas – For the second time in seven years, the Wake Forest men's tennis team claimed the NCAA National Championship with a 4-2 victory over No. 2-seeded TCU Sunday evening at the Hurd Tennis Center.
A charter member of the ACC, Wake Forest (40-1) is one of two ACC schools to win multiple national titles, joining Virginia, and one of just seven NCAA programs to do so. Additionally, Wake Forest and Virginia are the only two schools in the country with multiple NCAA titles since 2015.

Sunday's victory marks Wake Forest's 11th overall NCAA championship and the first since women's golf in 2023. Additionally, men's tennis became the second Wake Forest program to win multiple national titles, joining men's golf (3) and field hockey (3).
Wake Forest National Championship Teams
This was Wake Forest's second win over TCU this year, with the other also coming in a championship match in the ITA National Indoors back in February. The Demon Deacons are the first team to win both the ITA and NCAA titles in the same season since they did so in 2018. Additionally, they are just the fourth team to do the doubles multiple times, joining Virginia (2), USC (2) and Stanford (7).
ITA and NCAA Championships in Same Year
On court three, the dynamic duo of sophomore Luca Pow and senior Luciano Tacchi defeated Chan/Pedrico, 6-2. The All-Americans finished 18-4 as a team this spring and entered the tournament ranked as the No. 18-ranked duo. Over the last two years, they are 38-10 in match play.
Graduate student Stefan Dostanic and freshman Charlie Robertson concluded their incredible run together with a 6-3 victory over No. 32 Pinnington/Woestendick on court two to clinch the opening point of the NCAA championship. The two newcomers went 8-1 together and a combined 36-5 in doubles this season overall. Of note, Robertson is 12-1 overall in doubles against ranked opponents while Dostanic improved to 12-2.
The Deacs then carried the momentum over to singles where they claimed courts one, two and six to clinch the championship.
Closing out an incredibly dominant NCAA tournament, Dostanic took down No. 8 Jack Pinnington (6-3, 6-1) for his second top-10 win in three days on court one. Dostanic, ranked No. 13 nationally, finished 12-3 overall in a Wake Forest uniform with 11 of his 13 wins coming against ranked opponents. The Irvine, Calif.-native went 5-0 in the tournament which saw him named tournament MVP.
Of note, this was his second victory over Pinnington this season in a national title match, as he was the deciding victory at ITA National Indoors in February.
Overall this season, Wake Forest recorded an incredible 28-6 (.824) record on the first singles court and dropped it just once in the last 15 matches.
After becoming the first Demon Deacon to reach 30 wins in a single season since Petros Chrysochos in 2018 in the semifinal, Pow closed out his incredible season with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win over Duncan Chan on court six. He now holds an incredible 58-5 record over his two-year career with the Demon Deacons and was 5-0 in the NCAA tournament.
With his 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over No. 10 Pedro Vives in second singles, junior DK Suresh Ekambaram clinched the national championship for the Deacs. He earned his 20th win of the spring to just eight losses while competing on the first two lines. Of note, he went 5-1 in the NCAA tournament and earned All-Tournament honors.
His 20 wins put him second on the team behind only Pow. Suresh and the sophomore from England both finished in the 20/20 club. Additionally, Suresh led the team with 11 singles wins over ranked opponents.
Wake Forest wrapped up the season with an unprecedented 79-21 combined record in doubles and 138-42 in singles.

- All three Demon Deacon pairs held on their respective following games and took dominant 3-0 leads.
- The Horned Frogs finally got a game on all three, but once again the Deacs held and went up 4-1 on one, two and three.
- The Demon Deacons and Horned Frogs both held and brought the score to 4-2 on all courts.
- Robertson/Dostanic and Pow/Tacchi both took 5-2 advantages and put the Deacs on the verge of taking the opening point.
- Suresh and Xilas were back on serve at 4-3 on one.
- Wake Forest secured the 1-0 lead with wins from Pow/Tacchi (6-2) and Robertson/Dostanic (6-3).
- 20 minutes into singles, Wake Forest held breaks on courts one, four and six.
- On the first singles court, Dostanic was the first to take a set as he did so, 6-3, and gained momentum for the Deacs.
- The Horned Frogs took the first set on court three shortly after.
- Wake Forest took complete control with first set victories from Tacchi (6-3), Suresh (6-2) and Pow (6-3).
- TCU grabbed the first set on court four.
- In the second set, Dostanic broke on court one and put himself in position to defeat Pinnington once again.
- Tacchi and Pow were forced into a third set on five and six.
- Dostanic closed it out on one and took down No. 8 Pinnington in straight sets (6-3, 6-1).
- The Horned Frogs forced a third on court two and Robertson forced one of his own on four.
- Pow led 4-2 on court six as he neared giving the Deacs a 3-0 lead.
- TCU got one back with a win on court five, but Pow immediately responded on six with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 victory over Duncan Chan.
- With the eyes of the tennis world on courts two and four, Suresh did the honors of clinching the national championship for Wake Forest with his 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory over No. 10 Pedro Vives.

2025 Season Highlights
- Earning ACC Coach of the Year for the third time, head coach Bresky led the No. 1-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team to its fourth ACC regular season title as well as its first-ever perfect regular season at 33-0.
- The Demon Deacons are the first ACC program to finish the entire regular season undefeated since Virginia in 2013.
- It also marked the third undefeated conference record for the Deacs, with the previous two also coming under Bresky in 2017 and 2019.
- In February, the Deacs claimed their second ITA National Indoor Championship with thrilling 4-3 wins over current No. 3 Texas in the semifinals and No. 2 TCU in the championship match.

- In addition to Bresky's ACC accolade, the Demon Deacons had five members selected to All-ACC teams including singles nods for junior standout DK Suresh Ekamabram (first team) and graduate transfer Stefan Dostanic (second team).
- In doubles, Suresh also landed on the first team alongside freshman Charlie Robertson, while sophomore Luca Pow and senior Luciano Tacchi garnered third team honors.
- Since winning the ITA National Indoor Championship back in February, the Demon Deacons were tabbed as the best team in the nation in 11-consecutive polls and are one of eight ACC teams in the top 25.

- 25 of Wake Forest's 40 wins this season came against ranked opponents. The Deacs separated themselves from the rest of the competition by earning 11 victories against top-10 opponents and seven against teams inside the top five.
- Wake Forest also recorded an incredible 79-21 mark in doubles, taking 38 of the 41 possible opening points this season.
- The 38 doubles points this campaign is believed to be an NCAA record.
- In singles, the Deacs went a combined 138-42 as they set program records in both singles and doubles victories.
- With the national title, Wake Forest has further cemented itself as a tennis powerhouse and is showing no signs of slowing down under coach Bresky.

- Joining the Demon Deacons in January, graduate student Stefan Dostanic was a valuable asset to Bresky's squad in 2025. The former Pac-12 Player of the Year (USC) was the star of the show in Dallas, as the ITA National Championship came down to a third set between him and No. 18 Jack Pinnington on court one. The Irvine, Calif.-native won the match (7-6[3], 5-7, 6-4) and clinched the Deacs' second-ever ITA indoor title.
- Dostanic posted a 12-3 record for the Demon Deacons in the first singles position, with 10 of his 12 wins coming against ranked opponents. His performance this season saw him named All-ACC Second Team for singles. He entered the tournament ranked No. 13 in the ITA singles rankings.
- In the quarterfinals, Dostanic avenged one of his three losses this season as he defeated No. 2-ranked, and reigning NCAA singles champion, Michael Zheng in another three-setter.
- After becoming a singles All-American in the fall with an incredible run to the semifinals of the NCAA Singles Championships, Junior DK Suresh Ekambaram carried that momentum into dual match play this spring.
- The junior ranked second on the team notching 20 wins with a team-high 11 of them coming against ranked opponents.
- His highest-ranked win came on March 2 against Cal as he defeated No. 5 Carl Emil Overbeck in straight-sets (6-3, 6-4).
- Suresh, ranked No. 9 nationally, was ranked inside the top 10 all season and has reached as high as fifth. Of note, he earned First Team All-ACC honors last month.
- He also led the team with a stellar 28-5 doubles record this season playing alongside seven different partners. He is nationally ranked in five different pairs, as high as No. 5 (Charlie Robertson) and is currently No. 53 with Xilas.
- Prior to arriving in America earlier this year, freshman standout Charlie Robertson was ranked No. 8 in the world in junior ranking after making the semifinals of the junior US Open and finishing third at the junior world championships. He was also the No. 1-ranked junior in the United Kingdom.
- In his first-ever collegiate match, he clinched the victory against Georgia (Feb. 1) with a clutch 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 win on court four.
- He took time to adjust to collegiate tennis, dropping six-consecutive matches from Feb. 8 to Feb. 25. However, he then went on a remarkable run winning eight straight, including a perfect 5-0 record in ACC play.
- Robertson lost his first match in over two months in the opening round of the NCAA tournament, but bounced back the following day with a straight-set win over Kentucky's Charlelie Cosnet and then clinched the quarterfinal match against Columbia's Hugo Hashimoto.
- The Dundee, Scotland-native finished his first collegiate season with a 12-8 record and two ranked wins.
- Against Kentucky in the round of 32, graduate student Ioannis Xilas clinched the match for Wake Forest as he took down No. 78 Jaden Weekes.
- The Athens, Greece-native ranked third on the team with 18 singles wins this season and six victories over a ranked opponent.
- Xilas arrived in Winston-Salem last fall, where he made an immediate impression by going 4-0 at the Wake Forest Invitational.
- He spent most of the season playing with Franco Capalbo at third doubles, where the pair recorded a 12-7 record, before closing out the season alongside Suresh.
- Senior Luciano Tacchi posted a 15-9 singles record on the season and brought his career singles wins (dual match play only) total to 63, the most out of any active player in a Wake Forest uniform. Tacchi only dropped two matches in his last 17 outings dating back to March 7.
- He reached double-digit wins in each of the last three seasons.
- For the second-consecutive season, the Argentine clinched Wake Forest's Round of 16 match, this time with a win on court five against Texas A&M's Togan Tokac.
- One of the most consistent and dominant players in the country over the last two seasons, sophomore Luca Pow led the team with an incredible 31 singles wins this season and holds an incredible 57-5 mark over his two-year career with the Demon Deacons.
- Pow became the first Demon Deacon since Petros Chrysochos in 2018 to reach 30 wins in a single season.
- He recently saw his incredible 21-match winning streak come to an end at the ACC Tournament, but has responded with five-consecutive victories in the NCAA Tournament.
- Tacchi and Pow led the team in doubles victories this campaign with 18 to just four losses. They went 2-0 in Dallas at the ITA National Indoor Championships before earning their highest-ranked win to date over No. 3 Bulte/Rihane of Florida State on March 16.
- The two earned All-American honors in the fall to go along with winning the ITA Carolina Regional.
- They were recently tabbed Third Team All-ACC Doubles and entered the tournament ranked No. 18 nationally.
