ORLANDO, Fla. – Exactly one month removed from winning the NCAA team championship, Wake Forest men's tennis alum Stefan Dostanic has won the 2024-25 American Collegiate Wild Card Playoff, earning him an automatic spot into the 2025 US Open main draw.
In the final, Dostanic (No. 404) and Columbia's Michael Zheng (No. 498) met for the fourth time in 2025 with the Irvine, Calif. native taking the last three after his 6-1, 6-4 win on Wednesday. The victory qualified him for the first major of his career.
On Monday, Dostanic defeated Michigan State's Ozan Baris (No. 707), 7-5, 6-2, in the semifinals. Of note, Baris was the runner-up at the NCAA Singles Championships last fall.
The 2025 US Open will begin Sunday, Aug. 24 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, N.Y.
Two years ago, Wake Forest alum Borna Gojo reached the main draw of the 2023 US Open by notching three-consecutive victories in the qualifying rounds. After clinching a spot in the main draw, Gojo then went on to earn wins over Hugo Dellien, No. 40-ranked Mackenzie McDonald and Jiri Vesely – before inevitably falling in the round of 16 to tennis icon Novak Djokovic.

Closing out his highly-decorated collegiate career with a national championship, Dostanic served as Wake Forest's No. 1 throughout the year and played a major role in the program's success.
In the national championship against TCU, he wrapped up an incredibly dominant NCAA tournament as he took down No. 8 Jack Pinnington (6-3, 6-1) for his second top-10 win in three days. Dostanic, ranked No. 7 nationally in the final ITA poll, finished 12-3 overall in a Wake Forest uniform with 11 of his 13 wins coming against ranked opponents.
