Stefan Dostanic Set to Make Grand Slam Debut at the 2025 US Open

He is coming off of his ATP Tour debut at the Winston-Salem Open this past week.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After a breakout week at the Winston-Salem Open, Wake Forest men's tennis standout Stefan Dostanic is set to make his US Open main-draw debut on Sunday, Aug. 24, when he takes on fellow American and former collegiate star Elliot Spizzirri in the opening round at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The match is scheduled to start on Court 11 following the women's singles match between McCartney Kessler and Magda Linette slated for 11 a.m. ET.
The Demon Deacon earned his way into the main draw in June by winning the 2024-25 American Collegiate Wild Card Playoff in Orlando, where he defeated Michigan State's Ozan Baris (7-5, 6-2) and Columbia's Michael Zheng (6-1, 6-4).
Dostanic, the 2025 NCAA Tournament MVP, shined in his ATP Tour debut last week, delivering a commanding 6-4, 6-2 victory over world No. 93 Aleksandar Vukic in the Winston-Salem Open's Round of 64. He followed it up with a spirited battle against defending champion and world No. 35 Lorenzo Sonego, pushing the Italian star to the brink before falling in a third-set tiebreak, 6-3, 6(2)-7, 7-6(3).
The Southern California native has already cemented his place in Demon Deacon history, leading Wake Forest to the 2025 ITA and NCAA national championships. His ATP debut in Winston-Salem added another milestone, as he became the latest Wake Forest standout to break through on the professional stage.
On Sunday in New York, Dostanic will look to carry that momentum onto tennis' biggest stage when he squares off against Spizzirri, the former Texas Longhorn and NCAA singles finalist. He currently holds a world ranking of No. 128.
With a win, Dostanic will take on the winner of No. 32-seed Luciano Darderi and Rinky Hijikata with a chance to battle world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in the third round.
