No. 16 Demon Deacons Secure Point on the Road at Boston College

9/21/2025 5:24:00 PM | Women's Soccer

Wake Forest now has seven points in ACC play, the most through three matches since 2013.

NEWTON, Mass. -- The No. 16-ranked Wake Forest women's soccer team (8-1-2, 2-0-1 ACC) remained unbeaten in ACC play and stole a point on the road with a 0-0 draw against Boston College (4-2-4, 0-1-1 ACC) Sunday afternoon at the Newton Soccer Complex.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Valentina Amaral secured her sixth solo clean sheet of the season, which is tied for the most in the ACC, and the 13th of her career. The Oviedo, Fla.-native holds a stellar 20-4-5 record in starts over her three-year career. Additionally, she racked up four saves on the day to improve her season save percentage to .833, the fourth-highest in the conference.

Five outfield players went the full 90 for the Demon Deacons, including Laine DeNatale, Tahlia Zadeyan, Sierra Sythe and Dempsey Brown, who helped limit chances for the hosts throughout the contest and didn't allow a shot on-goal in the second half.

Freshman forward Kylie Maxwell also went the full 90 for the first time in her career.

Wake Forest is now 2-0-1 in ACC play and is second in the conference with seven points. Of note, seven points is the most for the Demon Deacons through three matches since 2013. The Deacs are also one of just six teams that remain unbeaten in ACC play.

How It Happened
  • Wake Forest opened on the front foot immediately as Flanagan won a corner just 40 seconds into the match.
  • The Demon Deacons recorded the first shot of the contest as Ressler fired one just over the bar in the fifth minute.
  • Amaral made her first save of the afternoon in the 12th minute as she easily corralled the Boston College attempt.
    • The standout keeper was called into action again three minutes later when she made an impressive diving stop and kept the match scoreless.
  • The Eagles continued to put pressure on the Deacs early, but Amaral made yet another incredible save as she tipped an attempt onto the bar in the 16th minute.
  • Wison had a long-ranged effort go wide in the 22nd minute as Wake Forest began to grow back into the game.
  • The Deacs called the Boston College keeper into action for the first time with seven minutes remaining in the first half, as Chance fired from the edge of the box and forced a difficult save.
  • The two sides went into the locker rooms deadlocked at 0-0.
  • The best chance of the afternoon for the Deacs came in the 54th minute, as DeNatale played a great through-ball to set Maxwell free on goal, but the Boston College keeper kept the freshman's attempt out.
    • DeNatale took a shot herself a minute later from distance that went just over the bar.
  • With just under 18 minutes remaining, Sythe played a brilliant ball into the box for Johnson, whose headed attempt missed the target.
  • Neither side was able to find the breakthrough as the points were shared.

From Coach da Luz
"Our team did everything to win the game, but we had to settle for a point today. Boston College is a fast paced physical team that presented many problems, but I felt like we had much more of the second half and almost won it at the end. We earned another shutout, and Valentina Amaral and the backline played very well. Kylie Maxwell and Sierra Sythe were dangerous all game. We fought hard showing grit on the road."
