Deacs Back on the Road to Face Clemson

The Demon Deacons are looking to earn their third conference win of the season and the highest NET win so far this season.

CLEMSON, S.C. – In the final game before the bye, the Wake Forest women's basketball team travels to Clemson Sunday with tipoff scheduled for Noon (ET) at Littlejohn Coliseum.
 
The Demon Deacons (12-7, 2-5 ACC) are off to their best start in the Megan Gebbia era and are looking to earn their third conference win of the season and the highest NET win so far this season. In the first 19 games, they have been propelled by 17.6 assists per game which ranks 28th in the country and second in the ACC. The Deacs have had the emergence of sophomore forward Grace Oliver as she is averaging a team-high 13.9 points per game and also ranking 10th nationally with 60.9 percent shooting from the floor which ranks first in the ACC. Going into Sunday, the Deacs ranked 22nd nationally and first in the ACC, holding opponents to just 35.6 shooting from the field and also ranking 63rd in scoring defense with just 58.8 points per game allowed while also ranking 57th with 27.7 defensive rebounds per game.
 
The Tigers (12-6, 3-3 ACC) are coming off their first ACC bye of the season as they last played on Sunday, falling to Georgia Tech, 58-55. Prior to that game, Clemson was coming off its best win of the season, defeating NC State, 75-65, on Jan. 8. The Tigers have done a good job of taking care of the ball, ranking 11th in the nation with just 11.9 turnovers per game while also ranking 30th nationally with a 1.21 assist-to-turnover ratio. Guard Mia Moore ranks second in the ACC and 20th nationally with a 2.72 assist-to-turnover ratio. The Tigers also have the top scoring defense in the ACC, allowing just 56.2 points per game this season. 
 
Tipoff for Sunday is scheduled for Noon (ET) at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Defensive Deacs
Wake Forest has remained a top competitor defensively well into the season, both nationally and in the ACC. Through 19 games, the Demon Deacons sit sixth in the conference, allowing 58.8 points per game and close behind the top teams. 
 
Additionally, the Deacs rank first in the ACC and 22nd in the nation with a 35.6 field goal percentage defense.

Assists On Made Baskets
Wake Forest tallied 17 total assists on the night on 31 made baskets (54.8 percent). In 19 games this season, the Demon Deacons have totaled 334 assists on 479 field goals (69.7 percent) which would mark the highest percentage in the Megan Gebbia era.
The Demon Deacons are averaging 17.58 assists per game, second in the ACC behind Virginia's 19.7.

The Deacs did an excellent job of moving the ball last season, as they assisted on 394 of 667 made baskets this season (59.1 pct.). This was the highest assist percentage in the Gebbia era and the assist percentage ranks in the top 70 percent in the nation according to HerHoopStats.

In 2023-24, the Deacs assisted 404 of 694 made field goals (58.2 percent). 

Forcing Them Over 
The Deacs forced the Golden Bears into 14 turnovers on Sunday, and have forced 10 or more takeaways 85 times in the last 88 games, a stretch dating back to January of 2022.
 
Through 19 games, the Demon Deacons have forced 15.5 turnovers per game.
 
Owning the Paint
The Demon Deacons had another excellent game in the paint, with 36 points posted inside, while allowing NC State to score just 32, a four-point deficit. 
 
Across 19 games, the Deacs have totaled 594 points in the paint (31.3 per game).
 
Sharpshooting Deacs 
Wake Forest posted its best three-point performance of the year, going 12-for-25 from beyond the arc with a perfect 3-for-3 performance from freshman guard Grace Galbavy. So far this season, the Demon Deacons have knocked down 121 threes (6.4 3FG per game).
 
Over the last six games, the Demon Deacons have three double-digit three-point performances coming against Gardner-Webb, Pitt and NC State. During that stretch, Wake Forest is averaging 7.83 threes made per game and the 47 threes made have accounted for 38.8 percent of the threes made for the entire season.
 
The Deacs finished the 2024-25 season knocking down 159 threes (5.5 3FGM per game). This included seven games with eight or more threes made. 
 
Through the first three seasons under head coach Megan Gebbia, the Demon Deacons have hit 590 threes in 95 games under her direction (6.2 3FGM per game).

  • The Demon Deacons came out of the gates with a fury, as they tied the most points scored in a quarter in program history, with 33 against the Wolfpack. The total also marked the best quarter so far this season, surpassing the 27 points posted against Morgan State and NC Central.
  • Additionally, the Deacs had its best three-point performance of the season, knocking down a season-high 12 total threes with contributions from five different Demon Deacons. 
  • Wake Forest's offense saw five Deacs in the double digits, with junior guard/forward Mary Carter totaling the team-high of 15 points, seven rebounds and shooting 3-of-5 from the three. Freshman Grace Galbavy posted a career-high 11 points, with a perfect 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc.

  • The Deacs finished 22-of-47 (46.8 percent) from the floor Sunday afternoon, the third-highest percentage of the season and best since the win over Winthrop on Nov. 17. Over half of Wake Forest's points came from inside the paint, as the Deacs outscored the Tigers 30-to-20 inside. Of note, Wake Forest is +64 in the paint against their opponents over the last three games.
  • The Demon Deacons also excelled at the free throw line, as they connected on nine of their 10 attempts (90 percent) for their highest percentage from the stripe this season.
  • Individually, freshman guard Aurora Sørbye led the team with 12 points on the day for her second-career game with double-digit points. She also hauled in two rebounds and denied two Clemson shots in a career-high 26 minutes off the bench.
