Wake Forest next prepares for a return to its home courts for a doubleheader.
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Wake Forest women's tennis (1-2) fell to Furman (3-1) by a score of 4-0 on Friday night. The loss snapped Wake Forest's five-match win streak against the Paladins.
Furman quickly claimed the first point of the evening, winning the first two doubles sessions of the match. Wake Forest's duo of Nevena Carton and Kady Tannenbaum were up 4-3 on the No. 16 duo in the country, Sasha Dimitrov and Lillie Murphy, but their match remained unfinished.
Within singles, Krystal Blanch, Tannenbaum and Carton all fell in straight sets on courts 1-3 to officially decide the match.
Heidi Bulger was able to earn a set win before dropping her second set, but the deciding third set was never played out due to the result being finalized. Evie Oxford and Sankavi Gownder never had a chance to complete a set in fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
Wake Forest will have a week until its next match, as the Deacs will host Marshall and UNC Greensboro next Saturday in their lone doubleheader of the season. Wake Forest finished last year's non-conference slate on a 12-5 clip and will look to improve on that mark in the coming weeks.

How it Happened
From Coach Wyshner
"First off, a lot of credit to Furman. They were hungry from beginning to end, and even when we found a little traction and took some momentary leads, they were able to fight back immediately. It was a great environment with a loud, hostile crowd, and it is always great to see college tennis played in that sort of environment. As for how we played, we played very sporadically. We didn't defend well enough and we weren't consistent enough on the attack… a second or third ball would end in the net or fly long. We've got a lot of work to do but it is just January. Hopefully this will light a fire under us and we'll grow from here."
