The Demon Deacons will host Marshall and UNC Greensboro in Winston-Salem on Friday
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest (1-2) is set to welcome Marshall (2-2) and UNC Greensboro (0-3) to the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center on Friday for its first and only doubleheader of the spring season. The Deacs will be in action a day earlier than originally scheduled due to potential inclement weather – the matches were initially scheduled for Saturday.
The Deacs will play Marshall at 2 p.m. on Friday before taking on UNC Greensboro at 6:30 p.m. later that evening.
This will be Wake Forest's second time playing at home this season after defeating ETSU, 5-2, in its home opener (Jan. 19). The Demon Deacons will look to bounce back following their road defeat at Furman last Friday.
Wake Forest fell to Marshall in a 4-3 thriller last season on the road (Feb. 2, 2025). The Deacs won the doubles point thanks in large part to Krystal Blanch, who won her doubles match with Makayla Mills to help the Deacs grab the point. Marshall proceeded to win the singles session 4-2, but Sankavi Gownder played brilliantly, winning her match in straight sets. Gownder has been red-hot to start the 2026 singles season, as she is still undefeated on the year and looks to continue that streak Friday.
The Demon Deacons last played UNC Greensboro on Feb. 11, 2023. Wake Forest dominated that match, sweeping UNCG 7-0. Seniors Jingyi Li and Nevena Carton played in that match three years ago and both had outstanding days. Li won both her singles and doubles matches, while Carton rolled her singles opponent in straight sets. The Deacs have not fallen to the Spartans since 2013 and will hope to continue that success in the second leg of Friday's doubleheader.
