Strong Fourth Quarter Lifts No. 8 Wake Forest Over No. 14 Cal
10/10/2026 12:15:00 AM | Field Hockey
Both Wake goals came just 18 seconds apart.
BERKELEY, Ca. – The No. 8 Wake Forest field hockey team defeated No. 14 Cal 2-0 on Friday night.
Senior Mia Schoenbeck recorded the first goal with less than two minutes to play.
Freshman Bianca Rees-Gibbs scored just 18 seconds after Schoenbeck's.
Sophomore goalie Ruby Butterfield recorded three saves and earned her seventh win of the season.
How It Happened
"It was a fantastic game. I couldn't be more proud of the squad. I thought Cal came out unbelievably explosive. They're a solid team and we held our own in the first half. We weathered a lot of DPCs which I am proud of our unit. Really tried to make some adjustments in the third quarter and then reiterated what we needed to do in the fourth quarter. The momentum just shifted towards us and I am really super proud of the women for creating as many opportunities as they did in that fourth quarter and finishing the game off in a fantastic way."
The Deacs will face Stanford on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET
