Averill Earns 450th Win as Head Coach of Wake Forest Against Stanford
10/11/2026 6:23:00 PM | Field Hockey
The Deacs return home from California with a 2-0 record on the weekend.
STANFORD, Ca. – The No. 8 Wake Forest field hockey team defeated Stanford 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Senior Mia Schoenbeck recorded a brace.
Junior Mia Montag scored the first goal just two minutes into the match.
Junior Lena Keller added one for the Deacs late in the second quarter.
Sophomore goalie Ruby Butterfield recorded six saves and earned her ninth win of the season.
How It Happened
Quote from Coach Averill
"Game of reversals, right? Cal took us a half a game to warm up, now we had a quick start. It was awesome to see us get on the board so quickly. I thought the squad moved the ball well. And then in the second half we held onto it a little long and didn't play as direct and forward as I would've hoped for us to continue that momentum. Nevertheless, I am extremely proud of this team to come across the country and play well against two great opponents. We're still growing."
The Deacs return home to face No. 15 Virginia on ACC Network Friday at 6 p.m. then face Davidson on Sunday at 12 p.m.
