Deacs Set to Travel to Louisville to Face No. 9 Cardinals

The Demon Deacons will be in search of their fourth ACC win of the season, their first ranked win of the Gebbia era and first top-10 win since 2012 Thursday night against No. 9 Louisville with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following a huge road win at SMU last week, the Wake Forest women's basketball team is scheduled to play at No. 9 Louisville Thursday with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (ET) at KFC Yum! Center.
The Demon Deacons (13-12, 3-10 ACC) are off to their best start in the Megan Gebbia era and are looking to earn their fourth conference win of the season, the highest NET win so far this season, their first ranked win since the 2020-21 season and their first top-10 win since the 2011-12 season against No. 7 Miami. In the first 25 games, they have been propelled by 16.8 assists per game which ranks 35th in the country and third in the ACC. The Deacs have had the emergence of sophomore forward Grace Oliver as she is averaging a team-high 13.4 points per game and also ranking 15th nationally with 58.9 percent shooting from the floor which ranks first in the ACC. Going into Thursday, the Deacs ranked 56th nationally and fifth in the ACC, holding opponents to just 37.9 shooting from the field and also ranking nationally in scoring defense with just 64.7 points per game allowed while also ranking 74th with 27.0 defensive rebounds per game.
The nationally-ranked Cardinals (22-4, 12-1 ACC) have won 15 of their last 16 games going into Thursday night with the lone loss coming against nationally-ranked Duke last week, 59-56. All four of the Cards' losses have come at the hands of top-25 teams as they all fell against No. 1 UConn, No. 3 South Carolina and No. 18 Kentucky. Louisville goes into the game leading the conference with 81.7 points per game while also having an ACC best +21.8 scoring margin. They have been one of the balanced teams in the country, ranking second nationally with 34.9 points per game coming from the bench. The Cardinals have their eight top scorers averaging between 8.0-12.0 points per game this season. They also have been a great rebounding team as their 42.9 rebounds per game rank 11th nationally.

Wake Forest finished with 13 assists on 20 made baskets for the contest (65.0 percent). In 25 games this season, the Demon Deacons have totaled 421 assists on 627 field goals (67.1 percent) which would mark the highest percentage in a single season within the Megan Gebbia era.

Grace is Historically Efficient
So far this season, sophomore forward Grace Oliver has been one of the most efficient players in the country, leading the ACC in field goal percentage and ranking 15th nationally, shooting 58.9 percent from the field:
Additionally, she has had one of the best seasons in program history as her 58.9 percent ranks seventh in Wake Forest history.
In a win over Gardner-Webb in December, Oliver finished the night going a perfect 14-for-14 from the floor, setting the ACC and Wake Forest record for field goal attempts without a miss. The previous ACC record was 12-of -12 from the floor by four players and was last done by Kalista Walters (Pittsburgh) against Chicago State on Dec. 31, 2017.
Additionally, this is just the ninth known occurrence in NCAA history of a player making 14 or more shots without a miss and first since Tinara Moore (CMU) on Jan. 9, 2016.

- Despite shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor and 50 percent from beyond-the-arc, the Wake Forest women's basketball team dropped a tightly-contested matchup, 81-76, in overtime last season.
- The Demon Deacons were led by a career-high scoring performance from sophomore guard Rylie Theuerkauf who finished the night with 17 points. The Tenafly, N.J. native started the game a perfect 5-of-5 from the field including a perfect 4-for-4 from three.
- Theuerkauf ended the game shooting 6-of-9 from the field and hit a career-best five threes on eight attempts. This included the game-tying three with 11 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.
- Wake Forest outshot the Cardinals from the field and three as the Deacs converted on a blistering 59 percent of its shots (27-of-46 FG) and 53 percent from behind the arc (10-of-19 3FG).
- Wake Forest assisted on 21 of its 27 made baskets (78 percent) against Louisville. 21 assists marks the most this season by the Deacs and most against an ACC opponent since Jan. 19, 2017 in an 80-77 victory over North Carolina. It was the third time this season Wake Forest logged at least 20 assists, with the first two coming against Winthrop and Gardner-Webb (both 20).
